    The Kimball Landfill is one step closer to the needed cell expansion as the Board of Public Works voted to recommend an engineering proposal from Golder and Associates of Lakewood, Colo. The proposal was one of two received for the project, which is not a construction bid, but rather a proposal to oversee the process from bidding the job, assuring quality construction, reporting to both the City of Kimball and the Nebraska Department of Environmental Quality and overseeing all aspects of construction through completion.     Returning from the holiday break, the Banner County Lady Wildcats were barely bested by the Hay Springs club, 46-45, in a non-conference game played on the road on Friday, Jan. 5. The Lady Cats were up in the first quarter 9-6, but their opponents were able to tie the score by the end of the second quarter, earning 19 points while keeping the Banner County girls to 16 for a tie at 25 to end the first half.   • Junior High ladies complete season with great attitudes

    The Kimball Junior High Girls basketball team had a busy final week closing out 2017 early in December with three games to finish out the season. The seventh graders finished their season with a 4-5 record, topping Bayard on Monday, Dec. 4 with a final score of 12-6. Lilly Tabor scored two, as did Jaydin Paxton, Kaitlin Van Pelt, Halsey Clark, Charlotte Hargreaves and Alyssa Paxton.   • Coach wishes to expand junior high wrestling program next year

    Kimball’s junior high wrestling team ended the year with several grapplers placing at meets across the region. According to head Coach Klent Schnell, the year began with 11 wrestlers, but those were quickly reduced to eight due to injuries, transfers and eligibility requirements.     Kent Halley was hired as Kimball’s interim superintendent at the Dec. 11 Kimball Board of Education meeting, following the resignation of Marshall Lewis.     Two managers of the Kimball Super 8 motel pled guilty in federal court in Omaha to harboring an unlawful immigrant for financial gain and conspiracy, according to federal authorities.
