    The Kimball City Council was scheduled to meet this week on Tuesday evening. Several significant items appeared on the agenda, including under Current Business this item: “Approve and Authorize Special Election to fill Council vacancy on such date as required or allowed per statute.” At issue was whether the three sitting members of the Kimball City Council should decide to fill the fourth seat by a special election.   • County Road Department Gets Back At It

    The Kimball County Commissioners dealt with a variety of topics Tuesday in their regular bi-monthly meeting. The county Road Department will begin working again on their 1/6 Year project located 14 miles south of Kimball and 2 miles west. Seven culverts will be installed in the two-mile area and the site will be graveled.   • FFA Progress Show Returns

    The Kimball FFA Alumni group was forced to skip last year's Progress Show, but that is not the case this year. This weekend will be the 18th annual Kimball FFA Alumni Progress Show. The alumni will set up Friday night. On Saturday, the hogs, lambs, and goats weigh-in will be 8-10 a.m. The hog show starts at 11, and the other shows will follow. Sunday is beef day with weigh-in from 8-10 a.m. The breeding heifers show starts at 11 and will be followed by market steer and showmanship.... Full story

    Good morning! June has arrived with farmers in the field, hot weather and summer celebrations! I think in a past life my husband was at the very least a relative of Johnny Appleseed because every year or so we plant & re-plant trees.     Tommy Mackland (Tom) Southard, 84, of Kimball, Nebraska, passed peacefully, with family by his side, on December 6, 2020 at Great Plains Health in North Platte, Nebraska. Tom had a short bout with Covid pneumonia. Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, June 18, 2021 at the Kimball High School Gymnasium with Pastor Roger Gillming officiating.     The inaugural season of the Kimball Longhorn Trap team is in the books. The team participated in the state trap shoot on Sunday, with each individual member shooting 100 clay pigeons. Results for the state tournament will be announced after all the teams throughout the state have completed their shooting. The state meet is open from June 11-20.     Cowboys from Mitchell, Bridgeport, Torrington, Hyannis and Akron, Colo., converged on Kimball for the Ranch Rodeo on Saturday, June 12.   • Fraternal Hall Museum Opens For Summer

    The Plains Historical Museum in the Fraternal Hall will be open Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Friday this summer from 2-4 p.m. Individuals have stepped up to volunteer to open the museum. One of the unique items in the museum is the Hinner organ and bench given to the museum by Fred and Helen Rasgorshek. According to the information on the organ, for $100, Fred purchased the church, which included pews, organ, and chairs from Bonham Mortuary in 1911.
