The Kimball Police Department received approval on two items at the Kimball City Council meeting on Feb. 20. A CargoGlide for a department pickup received approval for this budget season, and the council approved the purchase of a drug dog for the 2024-25 budget year. The CargoGlide, priced at $5,657.99, will provide storage for traffic cones, spikes, pepperballs, evidence collection kits, ballistic shields and instructor gear. A high speed chase which began in Scotts Bluff County, went through Banner County and Kimball County occurred Wednesday (today) just after 1:00 p.m. The chase ended when the Kimball County Sheriff's department put spikes out north of the Kimball exit on Highway 71. New housing is taking shape in Kimball to accommodate new hires needed for the major Clean Harbors expansion. In addition to other residential growth that Clean Harbors is backing locally, the environmental services giant has contracted with a company to bring mobile homes into Kimball. Gov. Pillen arrived in Kimball for the Kimball Health Services hospital ribbon cutting on Monday, Feb 26, but he also tended to other business. The governor and his entourage landed on the newly resurfaced Kimball Municipal Airport runway 10/28 and found the landing was incredible. The Kimball community came out en masse for Kimball Health Services new hospital ribbon cutting on Monday, Feb. 26. On a windy day, an estimated 200 or more people crammed into the entryway and clinic waiting area while officials were recognized and spoke of the process to develop the facility. Gov. The annual Kimball Public Schools spelling bee was held Wednesday, Jan. 31. Twenty-four students ranging from fourth through eighth grade filled the chairs on the stage of Harry E. The Central Banner 4-H Club met on Sunday, Feb. 18, to tie fleece blankets as a service project. This is an annual event for the 4-H Club. Club members Isaac, Gabe and Luke Olsen, Rachel, Luke and Joel Berger; Audrey, Silas and Eliza Ferguson; Luke Halstead and Theodore Perry donated fleece materials and tied 11 blankets. Good morning! Well after today February is a thing of the past. This past week has been filled with spring and winter days buffeted by winds with speeds up to 40 miles an hour. Kimball 51, Morrill 38 Tuesday’s subdistrict first round matchup with Morrill was a game that we took awhile to get things going, but a great finish to the 3rd quarter really opened things up. Knowing just how capable Morrill could be from the perimeter, our 7 point half time lead was not what we were hoping for after 2 quarters of play. The Kimball Lady Longhorns closed out their season on a high note, despite a loss. I was so pleased and proud of the progress we displayed throughout the whole year, but especially the last game. We were paired up with South Platte as a 3 seed at subdistricts. Our previous game with them they won very handily, 62-37. This time around, we had a solid game plan that we executed very well. MAYWOOD--After a middling 11-11 performance during the regular season, the Potter-Dix Coyote boys basketball team had a tall task ahead of them, as they had to travel as the number 15 seed to match up with number 2 seed Maywood-Hayes Center in the D2-2 District Final. The wildfire that began 8.6 miles northeast of North Platte on Monday morning continued to burn as of Tuesday afternoon. The Betty’s Way Fire has consumed 71,022 acres, according to a press release from the Nebraska Emergency Management Agency, with the hopes of some containment later on Tuesday. With winds over 40 mph the fire continues to spread east, and evacuations have been issued.
