Observations all along the line - Kimball & the Southern Panhandle First

Boniface Joseph Mirelez

On June 25, 2024, the world lost a great man, and Heaven gained its most cheerful angel.  Born on July 29, 1944, Boniface Joseph Mirelez was welcomed into the world by Lloyd and Margaret Mirelez in Gilcrest, CO.  Bonny, as he became known, was truly a bright light and happy soul.

Among the many who feel his absence is his long-time love, Juanita Mirelez, and his children, Kim Rodgers, Angela (Jimmie) Rose, Lewis Mirelez, Jason (Jasmine) Mirelez, Ben (Lori) Mirelez, and Gina Mirelez.  Bonny will be missed by his sisters Judy Aragon, Kathy Steward, and Martha DeArman. But his daughter Lisa Beals, his parents, and his siblings Pete Mirelez, Lloyd Mirelez Jr., Virginia Hernandez, and Marcia Costa have preceded him in death, and have no doubt welcomed him already.  Bonny also leaves his beloved grandchildren, great grandchildren and large family.  As Bonny never met a stranger, there will be many loved ones and friends who remember Bonny with a smile.

As a lifelong sports fan, Bonny spent his high school years playing football, basketball, and running track, occasionally finding time for schoolwork. He graduated from Bushnell High School in 1962 and attended  Chadron State College.  Deeply rooted as a Nebraska Cornhusker football fan, he cheered for his team even when they were in a "rebuilding season".  Bonny was a devoted Rockies, Broncos and Nuggets fan, and was often found enjoying games with family and friends.  Bonny was always at games played by his kids, grandkids, nieces, nephews, and other loved ones by either coaching, helping, or cheering.  His words of encouragement always brought happy grins to players and spectators.  Now, with the very best view from his spot in Heaven, look for Bonny whenever the game is on.

Bonny also shared a passion for music which started in his early years. He played the saxophone and sang in the band, BJ and Crypt Kickers. To pass the time you would hear him singing his favorite songs, serenading anyone who would listen, and playing "air "piano on the dashboard of his old El Camino.

Bonny's ability to persevere, while showing a great attitude was unmatched.  While Bonny worked hard throughout his years as a construction foreman, his true passion was for the people around him.  No gathering was complete without Bonny's signature sense of humor and joyful laugh.

As a chance to say farewell, we will gather on Bonny's 80th birthday, Monday, July 29th, 2024.  We will celebrate the blessing of Bonny's life at Crown Hill Mortuary, 7777 W. 29th Ave. in Wheat Ridge, CO, 80033, at 11:00 a.m., followed immediately by a picnic at the Arbor House at Maple Grove Park, 14600 W. 32nd Ave Golden, CO.  You are asked to bring your favorite memories of Bonny, and possibly a joke you remember him telling.
