Banner County FFA Students Finishing Up At Lincoln

Banner County

Good morning! Happy April and hopefully some showers, although March ended with hail at my house. The weather is so weird.

When I think about a new month already, I just can’t believe it is going so fast, I’m not having that much fun. A fourth of 2024 is already gone.

Graduations are not that far off and a lot of scholarship information is posted online. Today, April 4th, the FFA students are still in Lincoln for the state convention. The JAG conference was cancelled last week along with one other cancellation. Disappointment for those involved for sure.

The Lakota language classes at the Scottsbluff High School will continue tonight at 6 p.m.

Also tonight, the musical “Matilda” will begin at the high school – 7 is the time – and they will perform through the 6th.

The annual book sale hosted by the Friends of the Gering Library will begin today at the library. They will operate during regular business hours, which are 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. More information is available at 436-7433. This will run through the 13th of April.

Tomorrow, the 5th, will be a regular day of school for everyone other than the FFA students who will be finishing up in Lincoln.

Also on the 5th, the 35th anniversary showing at the Midwest Theater of the movie “Burbs” with Tom Hanks will have the first showing at 1:30 p.m. and again at 7 p.m. It will be shown also on the 6th at 7 p.m. and as a matinee on the 7th at 1:30 p.m.

Also on the 5th in Morrill they will have a Family Game Night at 321 Jirdon Ave., Sovereign Grace Reformed Church, at 6 p.m.

Traveling further northwest on the CSC campus the Wind Symphony and Community Band will perform in Memorial Hall at 7 p.m. Saturday, April 6th.

The first of several cruises by the High Plains Cruise Club will have cruise night that day beginning with a meet and greet at 5 p.m. at the Dairy Queen and the cruise at 6 p.m.

Also on that evening, the Mitchell Berean Church will have a Christian concert featuring artists Unspoken and Sanctus Real. The time is 7 p.m. and more information is available on their website.

On Sunday afternoon between 2 and 4 there will be a new opening at the Western Nebraska Arts Center. April is student art month and this is the Visionaries display for grades 6-12 that could include work from schools within a 125 mile radius. The open house is free and open to the public, and art work will be on display through April 28th during regular business hours.

On the 7th at 7 p.m. there will be a Gering High School Speech Showcase at the Midwest Theater.

On Monday, April 8th, our music students will be headed to WNCC for the day and the middle school track team will be in Bayard all day.

That evening is the regular meeting of the school board at 7 p.m. in the school cafeteria. The next day the high school track team will travel to Chapell to compete with Creek Valley. Safe travel to all of you, and good luck.

Well folks, have a great week and take care until next time. Barb Cross at 436-7152.
