Tough news for the girls basketball and volleyball teams for next year as Addison Olsen tore her ACL while playing basketball in Texas a few weeks ago. The Longhorn standout had surgery on Tuesday in Fort Collins, Colo., and her estimated time of recovery is six to eight months. Good news, according to Addison, is that this won’t be her senior years, and the injured foot isn’t the one that she high jumps off of. She will miss the volleyball and basketball seasons for sure, but she will be rooting for the team from the bench....
Banner County's Wyatt Reichenberg is the two-time Nebraska High School Rodeo Steer Wrestling Champion. Wyatt competed at the state finals June 10-12 in Burwell. The Harrisburg cowboy had a total of 132 points. State finals was two rounds and a short go. Wyatt had a time of 6.07 in Round 1, but broke the barrier in the second round with a 14.03. The Men's Thursday Night Golf League had a great turnout, great scores, and beautiful weather at the annual Father's Day golf tournament. League president Randy Bohac announced prizes and winners. The second annual Red/White Classic Golf Tournament on Saturday June 8 raised more than $40,000 for the Kimball Longhorns athletic programs. Of the 25 teams, first place went to Kimball Auto Parts with a 51 total score, Team Tolstedt came in 2nd with a 55. Third place went to Kimball Insurance with a 56. A number of Kimball Longhorns trap team members will compete at the state meet in Doniphan on Saturday, June 8, after a regular season in which a number of shooters won awards. The awards, which came out this past week, recognized the Kimball team for placing second in Class 1A / Conference 2 with 1,062.5 total points over the five-week season. The weather cooperated for a great Saturday evening for the 15th annual Kimball Ranch Rodeo. The rodeo, which returned after being rained out last year, started with wild bronc riding. Sixteen riders tried their hand at staying atop the broncos with 10 individuals staying on until the buzzer. Kimball's Breckyn Kiefer has already had a great summer as she competed in the USA Gymnastic 1 and 2 Regionals in Salt Lake City, Utah, from May 16-20. Competing against all levels and all ages, Breckyn, 13, had two passes on the double mini tramp and killed it. Massive crowds descended on Oliver Lake west of Kimball over the Memorial Day weekend. Kimball’s golf team played through cool, damp conditions at North Platte on Tuesday to rank ninth after Round 1 of the NSAA Class D Boys Golf Championship. The conditions delayed the tournament’s morning start, but the Longhorns put up a team round of 364 at Lake Maloney Golf Club to sit five strokes inside the top 10 ahead of Bloomfield. In a one-hole playoff, Kyler Lusche took first at the District golf meet Monday in North Platte. The Kimball Longhorn golf team took first in both the WTC and the Kimball Invite last Friday with Kyler Lusche leading the pack. Lusche talked about the highlights: "My chipping, my wedges were the best. I couldn't really hit any good drivers but made up for it with chipping. The Kimball and Pine Bluffs trap teams got together for a friendly "border war" on April 28, with 22 shooters from Kimball and 14 from Pine shooting two rounds in Kimball. They were mixed teams with shooters from both communities forming each team. The top three Kimball shooters were Teague Mazza with 46 points and Grace Anderson and Nolan Cook with 45 points each. The Kimball Dead Eyes Shooters 4-H club took home gold and silver medals at the 2024 Nebraska State 4-H BB Gun and Air Rifle Championships on April 20 and 21 in Grand Island. Seventh-grader Breckyn Kiefer crushed her own pole vault height at Best of the West last week. As the only seventh-grader competing against eighth-graders, Breckyn tied for second place with a vault of 7 feet, 6 inches, in the prestigious meet.
