Potter-Dix’s Coyote basketball teams started their seasons with losses and look to turn things around quickly before they fall too far in the standings. With an opening matchup on the road against a tough Morrill team, the Lady Coyotes were overmatched and quickly fell behind. The 2023-24 basketball seasons continue today, Nov. 30, at Bayard for the Kimball Longhorns and Lady Longhorns after their Nov. 27 debuts at the Hall of Fame Jamboree in Alliance. Both squads get right back at it Friday, Dec. 1, with a trip to Leyton to take on the Warriors. Their home seasons open next Tuesday, Dec. 5, when Garden County comes to K-Town. Western Nebraska was well represented at the TAP National Pool Tournament in Biloxi, Mississippi, happening this past week. The Potter-Dix Coyotes football season is over. The perennial post-season team in recent times ended the season at 9-1 with a crushing playoff loss to visiting Parkview Christian on Friday, Nov. 3. The scored was 51-0, a most uncommon outcome for the Coyotes – unless they're on the other side of this kind of point total. It marked the second straight year that P-D has lost in the quarterfinals. A disappointing end to the 2023 volleyball season for the Kimball Longhorns on Monday in sub-district play at Paxton. The Longhorns put up a hefty 40 points, but Bayard scored 76 and the visiting Horns closed their season with a fourth-place 1-3 record in D1 District 11 and 2-6 overall. OSHKOSH – Potter-Dix’s Coyote football team remained unbeaten with a 36-28 victory over Garden County in Oshkosh, spoiling the Eagles homecoming celebration and showing they’re still one of the best teams in D6 football. The Kimball cross county season came to an end at districts Wednesday of last week, but not without a strong finish. Kimball placed fourth in districts with 76 points. Seventeen teams competed. Due to the colder weather, the event was moved from Thursday to Wednesday at Pheasant Run Golf Course, Perkins County. Longhorn volleyball is on the path to sub-districts scheduled for Monday, Oct. 23, but a couple of more matches will be up for grabs before district play. The last home game for the five seniors was Tuesday against Perkins County and Thursday they will play a triangular at Minatare, along with Hemingford. The winless Storm had no chance against the high-powered Coyote offense, and the game was effectively over when the Coyotes put up 40 unanswered points in the first quarter.
