Longhorns Football, Hemingford To Play For 2nd Place

The Kimball Longhorns return to Keith Staehr Field one last time this season Friday in a battle for second place in D1 District 11 with Hemingford.

Kickoff is at 7 p.m.

The Horns are 1-1 in the district and 2-4 overall, while Hemingford sits at 1-1 and 3-3 overall. Hemingford is coming off a 44-42 win over Bayard, while Kimball lost 68-17 last week at Bridgeport.

Hemingford has an advantage in point differential in this week's game, having scored 194 points and given up 218 while Kimball is 134 points scored and 284 points allowed.

Head coach Darrell Howitt's team is paced by Brandon Paxton with 32.6 receiving yards per game, along with five touchdowns and a pair of interceptions on the season, according to the most recently available statistics. Derek Kauffman leads with 61 rushing yards per game, Greg Bingham with 6.8 tackles, and Derek Russell with three sacks.

Last Friday, the Longhorns traveled with their 1-0 district record at the time to Bridgeport, but encountered a strong Bulldogs squad that jumped ahead early en route to victory.

Next week, Kimball travels to Bayard for an Oct. 13 district matchup. Bayard is 1-2 in the district and 2-4 overall.
