Fall Is In The Air, Farmers Busy

Good morning this beautiful fall morning in Nebraska! Hope we have this kind of weather for the next 90 days, and then spring!

Everyone is still pretty busy and farmers are still trying to get wheat planted while beans, corn and beet harvest is still ahead. Whew!

For this upcoming week, Thursday, September 21st, there will be a home volleyball game at 1 p.m. verses Community Christian.

Football on tap for this week is here at home as the Wildcats celebrate Homecoming. Game time Friday is 5 p.m. for volleyball and 7 p.m. for the football game. Opponent is the coyotes from Potter-Dix.

Monday saw the students dressed as characters depicting their future career choice, Tuesday was bring your water to school in a container other than a water bottle, Wednesday was dress as your hero, Thursday (TODAY) is dress like you were from outer space, and tomorrow will be dress in your best school spirit attire. Getting pumped up to take out some Coyotes! Good luck Cats.

Also on the 22nd, there will be a Young Entrepreneurs Craft Fair at 102 East Overland from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Also that day, the Midwest Theater will show “Book Club: The Next Chapter.” It also will be showing the next two days.

The Western Nebraska Arts Center has “Family Trees” in the Main Gallery through the 29th of October. This is a display of sculptures and paintings by Becky Grismer, who is from Aberdeen, S. D. Her art compares the similarities between people and trees.

In the Bronson Gallery, also through the 29th of October, is an exhibit tilted “PARADE,” a celebration of mental health awareness. Last but not least on the 22nd, the YMCA Chuckwagon Dinner and Concert will take place at the Trails West Camp, opening at 6 p.m. with dinner at 7 and concert at 8. Saturday, September 23rd will be a busy day with both the Scottsbluff and Morrill markets open, our volleyball team heading off to Bayard, and the second annual Bike & Car Show in Melbeta between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. featuring cycles, hot rods, pickups, classics, rat rods, and vintage modes of transportation. On that same day the Pumpkin Patch at BE Farm goes from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. They will also be open the following day between 10 a.m. - 6 p.m. They are located at 11249 Rd. 73 in Bayard.

The 18th anniversary of the Festival of Freedom will be held at the Chuck Wagon Church, 1408 E 12th Street, Scottsbluff, between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. There will be free food and live music by the Freedom Band, Crupo Fuego and Revolution. More information is available at 308-765-0367.

Agate Fossil Beds National Park will host a Paleontology Program that afternoon at 1 p.m. presented by Sam Wright. He is the manager of the Fossil Preparator and Lab at the Museum of Geology at the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology. This will be followed by a tour with park ranger Amelia of the Cook Collection, which depicts the history of Lakota women.

Monday, September 25th, the volleyball team will compete in a tri-event hosted by the Wildcats. Games begin at 4 p.m. and opponents are Minatare and Morrill. Good luck Cats!

An Autumn in Alliance Scarecrow contest is happening now and kits are available at the Carnegie Arts Center, completed scarecrows are due by Monday the 25th.

Now through the 30th Dugan Kramer Funeral Home located at 3201 Ave. B in Scottsbluff and Gering Memorial Chapel at 1755 11th Street in Gering will have drop boxes available for a food drive for anyone interested in contributing for local food banks.

On Tuesday, the 26th the Banner County School seniors will participate in County Government Day and local author Lawrence Gibbs will be at the Leid Scottsbluff Public Library speaking about his book “Nebraska Sweet Beets: A History of Sugar Valley.” He will be in the library meeting room at 6 p.m. and after his presentation there will be a meet & greet. Everyone is welcome.

There will be a “Fields of Faith” event at Bearcat Stadium on Wednesday the 27th. Doors will open at 5:30 with food trucks, and the program will begin at 7 p.m. Everyone is welcome.

Also on the 27th there will be State Range Judging in Saline, Colorado for those FFA students, and there’s more sports here at home with volleyball at 1 p.m. and football at 2 p.m. Minatare is the opponent. Good luck Cats!
