Combines & Crews Try To Beat The Weather

Good morning! Harvest is getting underway, so please no more rain for just a little while. Although we all are so thankful for the rain, it sure would be nice to get a few of those crops in!

More to follow soon, right? Combines and the crews with them have been putting in many long hours trying to beat the weather.

Beginning this week, Thursday, July 27th three bands out of Colorado will play at the 18th Street Plaza between 6 - 9 p.m. Cory Pearman and Loop Story are both soft rock bands, and Float Like A Buffalo is a funk horn band. Not sure about that last one, might have to check it out ... maybe. Bands on Bordeaux has a live concert also on this night, same time .Name of the band is The Bar Flies.

Sidney will wind up their week long Fair on the 29th, and the Fair in Sioux County is from July 28th -to Aug. 6th., Dawes County runs through Aug. 5th.

The Kimball/Banner County Fair will be from Aug. 6 -12th, so we should have more information on that soon.

Shortly after the last day of Fair, school will be starting in Banner, on August 14th, I believe. Wow, Poof! Just like that summer is pretty much over.

Scotts Bluff County Fair in Mitchell is from July 29 to Aug. 1st. They will have a BBQ cook-off, the static and live animal exhibits, the rubber check race, rodeo, and food vendor’s. Uncle Kracker also plays one evening.

Cheyenne Frontier Days is winding up this weekend and they are sold out for Cody Johnson.

Besides fairs and fairs, “Barbie” is at the SkyView-Drive-In at 8:55 p.m. the 28th-30th.

Hey, I have to ask, did you all know that this was Not a kids movie, but an adult movie, with people actors, not animated? I didn’t know that and boy am I surprised at all of the hoopla by adults over this. The ones that are really into it, I mean. Little bit over the edge I think. But then again, each to their own!

Also at the drive-in on August 1st, the “American Werewolf in London” will play and is Free and on the 2nd. “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem” also will play. Show time is 8:55 p.m.

At the Midwest on Friday, July 28th the Sound of Freedom will play at 7:30 p.m.; the times are 6:30 p.m. on Saturday the 29th and 1:30 p.m. on Sunday the 30th. This is FREE on all 3 dates and is rated PG. It is about a rescued child that had been trafficked.

On Saturday, July 29th, the Farmers Markets are open in Scottsbluff and Morrill, and in Bridgeport they will be having an ‘End of Summer Bash’ at the Prairie Winds Community Center from 9-11:55 p.m. They will have a live band, craft and food vendor’s and more. Everyone is welcome.

Finishing off July, on the 30th, there will be an Ice Cream Social and the 1st Annual Gospel Jubilee at the Salem Congregational Church in celebration of their 95th anniversary. They are located at 2001 7th Avenue in Scottsbluff, and will start serving up the ice cream at 3 p.m. As hot as it has been ice-cream sounds like a pretty good idea!

That same date at 7 p.m. the UNITE Night of Worship will be held at the Scotts Bluff Fairgrounds in Mitchell. Everyone is welcome.

European Wines 101 will be at 6 p.m. on the 31st and you must be 21 years old and pre-register. More information is available by calling the Gering library at 308-436-7433.

August 1st National Night Out will be observed on Broadway in Scottsbluff between 6 - 8 p.m.

Finally, locally, on Aug. 1st the Commissioners will hold a meeting at 8:30 a.m.

Also, on August 19th, a ways off, the Banner County Museum will host a Community Garage Sale between 8 a.m. - 2 p.m. For more information please call Sharon Sandberg at 631-2421.
