School Year Winding Down, Spring Activities In Full Bloom

Good morning! Here we are in May and looking at about two weeks of school after the end of this one.

This evening is the annual Spring Concert & Art Show at the school beginning at 6 p.m. Everyone is invited to come and enjoy the show!

At 7 p.m., the Midwest Theater will have a live performance that is billed as the greatest two person circus act, “The Great Dubois.” Starting at 8 p.m. in the Valley Event Center in Gering there will be Midget Mayhem Wrestling. You must be at least 18 years old for this one.

On Friday, May 3rd, there will be a 10 a.m. late start at school and the high school track team will be headed to Leyton.

The weekend movie at the Midwest Theater will begin at 1:30 p.m. with “Godzilla x Kong – The New Empire.” This will also play at 7 p.m Friday and then the next two days.

The Scottsbluff YMCA “Corks, Forks, & Brews” will be at the Gering Civic Center with doors open at 6 p.m. and dinner at 6:30 p.m. There will be a silent auction and live music by the Greendales. You must be 21 years old to attend.

Saturday, May 4th, has a lot going on. The FFA Green House will be open for sales between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. here at home.

At Morrill, there will be a Spring Craft Show between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. at the American Legion and if you need more information please call 308-247-2475.

If you are up Lingle way, they will have live music at 1 p.m. in Whipple Park which is free to the public, bring your lawn chairs!

The High Plains Auto Club will have cruise night with car viewing at 5 p.m. and cruising to begin at 6 p.m. from the Scottsbluff Dairy Queen.

The first of several programs at the Agate Fossil Beds National Monument will begin at 8 p.m. with “The Constellations of Spring’”by Tom Robinson. This will be at the picnic shelter, and you are asked to bring lawn chairs or blankets. There will be telescope viewing and red cellophane and rubber bands will be provided to cover your flashlights, so don’t forget them!

Also on the 4th, the annual Summit to Summit 7.2 mile run/walk will begin at the Summit Christian College with them hosting the 15th year of this run which will end at the bottom of the Scottsbluff National Monument. Registration is 6-7:15 a.m. There will be exhibits, including the airport crash truck, a fire truck, helicopter, hot air balloons, and critters from the zoo. The College is located at 2025 21st St. in Gering.

From 2-6 p.m., there will be the first “Sunday in Park with Fido,” which will be on the first Sunday of every month through October. This will be at the 18th Street Plaza in Scottsbluff and vendors will be present. Don’t forget to bring Fido, or in my case Norman.

On Tuesday, May 7th, there will be a Nebraska Medicaid Special Listening Tour in the Panhandle at the Scottsbluff High School between 5 and 6 p.m.

Wednesday the 8th is the beginning of district track competition for our Banner County student athletes.
