Going Away BBQ For Pastor Bob On July 8

Banner County

Good morning and here is hoping you had a blast on the 4th, celebrating our great country!

I was with friends at the rodeo, something that my family has done for over 40 years, seldom missing an attendance on one night or the other. Many have been "doing" fireworks for several days and now that is over for another year, I am OK with that.

We start off this week with lots of music in lots of different local areas.

In Scottsbluff at the 18th Street Plaza the New Wave Machine and Loaded Dice will play from 6-9 p.m. tonight, July 6th. Both play music from the '80s, so bring a lawn chair and enjoy. These two bands will perform on the following evening in Alliance if you miss them Thursday.

Bands on Bordeaux in Chadron will also have live entertainment on the 6th from 6-9 p.m. at Railroad Park if you are up that way. They also have vendors, kids games and beverages. Torrington has music Thursday night.

Also, beginning on Friday, July 7 and continuing through the 8th, the folks in Lyman will be celebrating Lyman Days. They will begin at 7 p.m. on the 7th with kids games, face painting, food vendors, crafts and bed races. These will also continue on Saturday plus a corn hole tournament, mud volleyball and a BBQ/Smoker competition. This also all begins at 7 p.m.

The SkyView Drive-In will show "Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny" from the 7-9th with gates opening at 8:30 p.m. and show time at 9:10 p.m.

Friday, July 7th at 8:30 p.m. the movie "DC League of Super Pets" will play at Frank Park as a part of the Movies in the Park summer program.

Also on the 7th the Gering Public Library will host a ' Teen Self-Care Fair' from 4-6 p.m. at the Gering Plaza. There will be activities and information helpful to the teens.

On Saturday, July 8th, the 18th Street Plaza will be the place to be for your summer market buys from 8-11 a.m.

There will be a "going away" BBQ at the Banner County Museum grounds on Saturday, July 8th at 5 p.m. for Pastor Bill Bagley and his family, who will be leaving us soon for a new position. Meat, drinks, and table service will be provided and you are asked to bring a salad or desert.

On Sunday, July 10th, there will be a Lantern Coloring Workshop at 102 E. Overland at 6 p.m. Everyone is invited.

At 6 p.m. July 10th, the Gering Public Library will have the next class in its four-part series on wines from France, Italy, Spain and Portugal. This week the class will be on wines from Italy. For more information, please call 436-7433.

Also on the 10th, there will be "LIGHTS UP" as the Midwest Theater Marquee will proudly show off the new lights that we have waited quite some time for. Broadway will be closed from 17th-`18th streets. This is set to happen at 9:15 p.m.

The Scotts Bluff Monument offers "The Emigrant Experience" daily, as long as the weather permits. They give informative talks and tours between 10:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. that last approximately 30 minutes.

The next Banner County Commissioners meeting will be on Tuesday, July 11th at 8:45 a.m. with an Equalization meeting 15 minutes prior to that.

Next week will be really busy and here are a few Heads-Up!

Oregon Trail Days will be a 3 day event beginning on Friday, July 14th with the Kiddie Parade among many other events.

Theater West will have new shows, beginning on the 13th with "Guys & Dolls in Concert," and the monthly Free adult movie will be showing at the Midwest.

Until then have a great week and take care. Barb Cross at 436-7152.
