Banner County

Good morning and here we are pulling out of another deep freeze.

What else is there to say?

The weekend weather looks good, or at least better.

Over the hill the Midwest Theater will be showing “A Man Called Otto.” This is rated PG and sounds interesting. Show times the 24th & 25th are at 7:30 p.m. and on Sunday the 26th it’s at 1:30 p.m.

Saturday the 25th is a busy day as the Morrill American Legion will host a fund raiser with a Chili Feed between 5-8 p.m. for young Brayden Branham. There will be a live auction, silent auction and a 50/50 raffle.

On that same evening the Gering American Legion will be having Karaoke from 4-11 p.m., and the Weborg 21 Centre will be hosting the annual Ducks Unlimited Banquet. The doors for the banquet will open at 5:30 p.m. and dinner will be served at 7 p.m. Throughout the evening there will be a live auction, silent auction, and a 50/50 raffle. For tickets go to any Platte Valley Bank or to ducksunlimitedmyeventscenter.com/Western-Nebraska-49241.

Here at home after a short week last week, today, February 23rd the high school boys basketball team will be involved in subdistrict play, it is FFA Week, and it is Elementary Teaching Day for the elementary students.

On Friday the 24th there will be a regular school day, the high school girls basketball team will be in District Final play and as part of FFA Week there will be a Petting Zoo in the shop room. This is always a great hit.

On Saturday, February 25th, the Speech team will head to Alliance.

Wrestling is finished for this season and a big Congratulations to Wyatt Reichenberg, job well done!

There will be a Paint Party at the school on the 26th. between 2-4 p.m. This is sponsored by the Close Up group as part of their fund raising efforts for their trip to Washington D.C. If more information is needed please call the school at 436-5262.

Monday the 27th is the first day of track practice and hopefully the weather will cooperate, however indoors or out, be aware of them along the roadways. This date is also slated for high school boys basketball district finals and the forever enjoyable beginning of Dr. Seuss Week, “ I Can Read with my Eyes Closed.”

The following day as part of that will be the 100th Day of School! and on Wednesday they will celebrate “ Cat in the Hat.” Also on Wednesday the Speech team will compete in Gering.

June is a ways off yet, however the next Historical Day is planned for June 3rd. The Banner County Historical Society is looking for anyone who is interested with helping with any of the activities to please let them know by e-mail to [email protected].

The next Commissioners meeting will be March 7th at 8:30 a.m. and the Ignite Youth Group will meet on Wednesdays at 6 p.m. at the Harrisburg Community Church, weather permitting.
