We Really, Really Need Some Rain; School Opens In Banner

Good morning Banner County! Boy have we had our share and then some of fires here this past month.

Another one in the northwestern corner this past week. We really, really need some rain.

School has officially started here and in a number of other school districts in our surrounding area.

In Scottsbluff, last Friday brought hot air balloons in the air and derby races at the Scottsbluff County Fairgrounds.

The High Plains Riot continues today through Sunday, August 22nd, with motorcycles, rat rods, hot rods and customs. For more information on what is happening there, please call 308-641-3697 and ask for Jeremiah.

Bands on Bordeaux continues in Chadron from 6-9 p.m. at Railroad Park on the 19th, and it is free.

Also on that date the Panhandle Ag Research and Technology Tour will be held at the Panhandle Research Center in Scottsbluff. The tour will begin at 8:30 a.m. with information about the Dry Bean Breeding Program, and many more topics will be discussed throughout the day.

The farmers market will be at the Monument Mall on Saturday, August 21st, from 8-11 a.m., and there will be a Muscle Car Expo at the Aulick Truck Stop from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday, August 20 to Sunday, August 22nd.

There will be Airpower Tours at the Scottsbluff airport. On Friday cockpit tours of the B29 and B24 planes will be available from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. On Saturday the 21st the B29 flies at 9 and 10:30 a.m., while the B24 will fly at 9:30 and 11 a.m. Cockpit tours will be available after noon. On Sunday, the B29 will fly one last time at 9 a.m. and the B24 at 9:30 a.m., with tours at noon. Children under 10 are free and the entrance will be at the Terminal Ramp.

The Midwest Theater will show the movie “In The Heights” at 7:30 p.m. on the 20th and 21st. and at 1:30 p.m. on the 22nd. Also on the first two showings, the movie “Free Grey” will play at 10 p.m. On these same dates the SkyView drive-In will play “Paw Patrol” at 8:15 p.m.

Wednesday, August 25th. is National Park Service Birthday celebrations with Free Park entries.

Here at home we will be in school. However, there will be NO School for students on Friday, August 20th.

Happy Happy Birthday!

Anniversary congratulations to Mr. & Mrs. Larry Malm, Comron Yazdgerdi, Steve Adrian, Aaron Harper and Ryan Mason. High school volleyball will play in a Jamboree at Potter-Dix on the 23rd. starting off the sports season. Good luck and safe travel to all.
