Wheat Harvest A Done Deal For Some

Good morning Banner County! Wheat harvest is well under way, and mostly finished in most parts around here. Some areas are still spotty.

Summer is definitely winding down. And my lawn needs mowed! Today!

Thursday, July 29th folks in Chadron will celebrate Bands on Bordeaux from 6- 9 p.m.

And on the same evening the Dawes County Fair will begin. There will be rodeo, tough truck and rubber check competitions, plus the 4H exhibits through Aug. 7th.

Similar events will begin in Harrison on the following day in with the beginning of the Sioux County Fair. Through Aug. 8th they will have hog wrestling, steer roping, a demolition derby and more. Also the fair competitions and exhibits.

The following day, Saturday, July 31st in Mitchell, the Scotts Bluff County Fair will begin. They will start off with a parade at 10:30 a.m. and there will be tons of activity for several days, including rodeo,rubber check races and a carnival which will be there the 4th to 7th. The FFA chore time relays will also take place on the fairgrounds on the 3rd at 7 p.m.

Also on July 31st, in Crawford, the Peabody Hale Fiddle Contest will be taking place at 8 a.m. with a quilt show and horseshoe competition to follow.

In Scottsbluff, the farmers market will be on Saturday at the 18th Street Plaza from 8-11 a.m. and I believe our local gal will have corn out at the mall parking lot. I believe she is there from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. She has other nice vegetables, too.

Tuesday, August 3rd. is National Night Out and the Scottsbluff Police Department invites you to participate from 6- 8 p.m. You may call them at 632- 7176 for more information.

The Torrington Police Department will also be observing National Night Out at the Jirdon Park from 6:30-8:30 p.m. if you are up that way.

The Kimball Banner County Fair will run August 3rd to 9th and will include a concert and rodeo, plus the fair events.

Anniversary congratulations to Mr. & Mrs. Brady Cross, Benjamin McGowan, Chris Kling, Micheal Macias, and Jack Revell.

August 4th, which is on a Wednesday, is the statewide anniversary of the great American Outdoors Act, which means that there will be a Free National Park entry day at all of our National Parks. Great if you can make it.

Two more fairs begin on the 4th: Garden County Fair & Rodeo in Lewellen and Box Butte County Fair in Alliance.
