Banner Notes: Memories Rekindled Of Old Kimball Drive-In

Good morning! Beautiful morning here, clear blue skies and perfect weather.

Here is a question for you. Whatdya call a Frenchman wearing sandals? Phillipe Phillape! Flip Flop season for sure.

I hope you all had a wonderful Father’s Day weekend. It was pretty nice here. Lots of kids. Slept pretty good Sunday night.

Many of you have lived here or pretty close by for your whole life, or for the most part of it. I am one of those, although I did live out of sate for a short time.

However, back in the good ole days, we had movie drive-ins and the one I grew up with was in Kimball. From the time I can remember my dad carrying my little sister into the house because she fell asleep. Up until Prom all night movies, that was the place to be.

So now we have the weekend movies in Scottsbluff, plus the summer movies which are switching it up to the “Midwest Drive-In Theater Summer Movies.” These will take place on every Wednesday and Thursday through July 23rd. The gates will open at 7:30 p.m. with lots of parking space, concessions, and porta-pottys. The movie is expected to start at approximately 30 minutes after sundown.

These movies are FREE! Thursday, June 25th they will play the 1971 version of “Willy Wonka” ( G ), July 1st is “Never Ending Story” ( PG ) and on July 2nd it is “Iron Giant” (PG). One thing great about the drive-in, you can always bring your own popcorn, etc.

As I mentioned last week, this Saturday June 27th is the date for the annual LaGrange Mini Fair. The action begins at 8 a.m. with a fun run, the parade is at 10 a.m. and the fun continues through about 1 p.m. with a cornhole tournament.

On July 1st, the Lied Library in Scottsbluff will hold a Digital Citizenship class from 10 a.m. – noon for anyone interested in becoming more technologically savvy. If you need more information, please call 630-6250 or 635-6777.

I have no information on any 4th of July events other than I know LaGrange will have fireworks as usual, but no ice-cream social.

I tried to check out the Bridgeport Stampede and a few other spots, but had no luck.

At this time in our country with all of the rioting and so much chaos, I truly wish we were celebrating our freedom, praying that we will always be able to do so.

However, birthday celebrations here this week include:Victoria McGowan, Janet Soule, Larry Stoddard, Chris Martinez, Alan Olsen, Hillary McNees, Chris Cooper, Jayden Marx, Samantha Schmidt, Jerry Morris, Thea Mae Carlson, Bronson Smith, Rowdy Baker, and Brady Jones. Happy Happy Birthday!

Anniversary congratulation to Mr. & Mrs. George Jerred, Ernie Griffiths, Gary Beals, Steve Lease, Robert Olsen and Ryan Frayser.

Have a great week and take care until next time.

Barb Cross is at 436-7152.
