City Parks, Some Churches Reopening

Good news for children and parents alike as the Kimball city parks will be reopened on Tuesday,.Social distancing will still be required and signs will remind park visitors of the guidelines.

Group sports are still not allowed under the current Directed Health Measure, so the basketball courts will remain closed for the time being.

St. Joseph’s Catholic Church resumes with two Masses each weekend for a period of time to comply with social distancing. A Saturday evening Mass at 7:00 pm as well as an 8:00 Mass on Sunday beginning on May 23 and 24.

The First English Lutheran Church services will begin again on May 31.

Trinity United Methodist Church has yet to make a firm decision on their restart plans.

While New Hope Assembly of God held an outdoor service last week and will continue this option on Saturday at 6:30 p.m. and then have their regular indoor church service on Sunday at 10:30 a.m.

Kimball Baptist Fellowship has had services for the past couple of weeks beginning with Mother’s Day. They will meet up at 10:45 a.m. on Sunday for their regular service and have a pot luck dinner afterward the service.

The Nebraska Department of Labor saw Kimball County initial unemployment claims spike at 21 for the week of May 9. The two previous weeks had 10 initial claims for both weeks.

Nebraska is still hovering around 4% unemployment. Kimball’s unemployment stems not only from the COVID-19 but also is a result of the low oil prices.
