Food Bank Coming To Harrisburg Nov, 4

Good morning Banner County and welcome to winter – and it is November already!

I feel like this year has just flown. We have had one graduation in our family and one wedding, and they say good times make that time fly faster. Maybe so.

Speaking of good times the folks that came to the Harrisburg Community Church on Saturday evening had a ball. Good fellowship, good food and so much fun! We were happy to see Matt Rundell and see that he is improving. He has a long way to go, and he will continue to be in our thoughts.

On the flip side, we send our sympathy to the family of Jim Stauffer (Judy), who passed away this past Thursday. Over the years, Jim ended many a coyote with his dogs. We are also thankful that Deven Sullivan was not seriously hurt in his accident.

Tomorrow is Friday, November 1, and there will be NO school. On November 2, Banner County School will host the junior high wrestling tournament. The gym usually is packed, and the noise volume is on high. The meets will begin at 9 a.m.

This weekend is also time to set your clocks back. I have one word for this … yippee/yuck.

On November 4, the Food Bank for the Heartland will distribute FREE food at the Good Shepherd of the Plains Episcopal Church beginning at 5 p.m.

On Tuesday, November 5, the junior high wrestling team will head to Kimball for meets, which will begin at noon. Good luck and safe travel.

Just a little heads up. Next Friday, November 8, beginning at 7:30 a.m. there will be a Health Fair at the school. I think this is open to the public, but call them to be sure. Number is 436-5262.

Before I fail to mention, and as you all are aware, today/tonight is Halloween. Not even on my calendar. However, I will mention the Trick or Treat Downtown in Scottsbluff, where the merchants will hand out treats from 4-6 p.m., and also there’s the Legacy of the Plains Museum in Gering, which will offer treats during those same hours. Hit those two, and be safe and home before dark.

Depending on the weather, the Hay Days maze will be open on Friday, November 1, out at the Riverside Discovery Center. Their number is 630-6236.

Also on Friday, November 1, you may register for Serf Safe Training, which will take place on November 20-21 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The training will be held out at the Panhandle Research and Extension Center, located at 4502 Ave. I in Scottsbluff, Bluestem Room (432-3373). I have taken this and is pretty good in my humble opinion.

Those musically talented students out at WNCC will be performing the musical “ A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To The Forum” at 7:30 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, November 1 and 2 and at 2 p.m. on Sunday the 3rd.

Saturday, November 2, is the date of the 11th Annual Warrior Run. This is held out at the Legacy of the Plains Museum in Gering and will begin at 9 a.m. for registration and the race will follow at 10 a.m. For more information, please call 436-1989.

Also on that date there will be a Holiday Bazaar Craft Fair at the Hampton Inn from 9 a.m.to 4 p.m. Winter Market will begin on this date, too, and is being held at 1400 E 20th from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

On Sunday, November 3, the Gering Public Library will host a Family Game Fiesta from 3-5 p.m. Teaching good sportsmanship!

Remember too those story times for toddlers and pre-schoolers at both the Gering and Scottsbluff libraries. There will be a Cattle Risk Management workshop, which will be Free. However, you need to register by Monday, Nov. 4, so that they can have a head count for the meal. The workshop itself is hosted by Nebraska Extension and will be held on Wednesday, November, 6 from 5-8:30 p.m. at the Buffalo Point Restaurant located at 638 Cabela Drive, Sidney. November 4 is also the date to try to get a seat at the 25th annual Christmas Dinner at Fort Robinson. This will take place in the state park’s Buffalo Soldiers Barracks, and the menu will be one consistent with a Christmas dinner in 1878. Yes, they did have turkeys back then. Fresh turkeys. Not frozen. Potatoes and gravy, too. There will also be live music and a historical commentary. Persons attending will be welcomed in period attire, or otherwise, and if you would like more information, please call 665-2900.

Healing Hands will be in Scottsbluff on November 4 and 5 to offer a Free Clinic for Community Service Days. This clinic will offer dental and chiropractic services as well as free hair cuts and more. They will be in operation from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., and please call 633-1760 for more information.

Down south at the Goodhand Theater in Kimball the movie ‘”The Art of Racing In the Rain” will play November 1 and 2 at 7 p.m. and on the 3rd at 2 p.m.
