Blistering 55 Wins Kimball Hospital Foundation Golf; 116 Players In Field
The winning team of this year's Kimball Hospital Foundation Golf Tournament was the Hays Roofing & Siding foursome that shot a winning score of 55. From left are Darrell Dean, Ty Garrett, Marc Clemens and Shane Hays.
A field of 116 golfers turned out for the 28th annual Kimball Hospital Foundation Golf Tournament this past weekend at the Four Winds Golf Course.
The popular event held on Saturday was a four person scramble format with some added twists that allowed golfers to improve their tee distance and/or purchase additional mulligan shots, thus helping the winning teams to shoot some very low scores.
This year's winning team was composed of Ty Garrett, Shane Hays, Marc Clemens, and Darrell Dean and was sponsored by Hays Roofing and Siding – and their winning score was an exceptional 55! The second place team, shooting 57, was made up of local golfer Greg Robinson along with a strong Texas flavor of Hobert Brown and his sons Drew and Reed.
All Nebraska football fans remember Drew well as he was a renowned kicker for the Huskers just a few seasons back. Younger brother Reed is also an elite athlete in his own right as a member of the Oregon cross country and track team.
The Brown family have played in this tournament many times and add a bit of celebrity attraction to the affair. They are also very good golfers!
Two teams tied for the third spot, shooting 58, with third place decided by scorecard playoff. Winning third place was the team of Charles Ferguson, Tracia Ferguson, Kendall Ferguson and Brenna Mack. Also shooting a round of 58 was the team of Dillon Wise, Zane Anthony, Gavin Howell and Candon Ehler.
The golf course was once again in top condition thanks to course superintendent Jeremy Williams, and Chad Wise and his staff did a good job of scoring the tournament and taking care of the golfers. Foundation chairman Kerry Ferguson acted as the MC for the day and kept everyone informed of what was taking place and announced all of the winners of not only the tournament but also the flag prize winners and raffle winners.
All golfers were treated to a light lunch before tee off and a buffet dinner after completing play at the Wind Break Restaurant.
Flag prize winners for the day were Nan Garrett with closest drive to the Walker on number 1, Kelly Garrett with closest drive to the Diaper on number 2, no flag prize on number 3 which called for a hole-in-one, Clay Casey won number 4 with closest to the water without going in, Pat O'Brien won number 5 with closest drive to IV stand for anyone over age 65, Ken Vosler won number 6 with longest putt, Sherry Winstrom had the long putt on number 7, Tammy Land had long drive for women only on number 8, and Jeremy Burks long drive in fairway on number 9.
The back nine winners were Sherry Daily with shortest drive in fairway for women only on number 10, Nick Brown was closest to the wheelchair on number 11, Maggie Laughlin had long putt on number 12, Charlie Carlson was closest to the commode on number 13, Tiffani Anderson longest putt for women only on number 14, Drew Brown closest 2nd shot to the pin from off the green on number 15, Charles Ferguson closest chip from off the green on number 16, Denise Steckle closest tee shot on number 17, and Tom Southard longest putt on number 18 for anyone age 65 and older.
A lot of very nice flag prize gifts were donated by volunteer businesses and volunteer individuals. A putting contest for a $200 cash prizes was also held but no one got the job done so no winner.
Mike Coleman did win a DJI Spark Drone as winner of the putting contest drawing. Gabe Ingram was the winner of a Treager Pro pellet grill from Hometown Hardware and co-sponsored by Joe and Deb Fennell, Rollie Hager, and John and Missy Moritz.
Raffle tickets were sold for a chance to win the grill. Raffle tickets were also sold for a chance to win four Hisense 60-inch TV sets donated by Ken and Cynthia Hunter – and the four lucky winners were Jennifer Coleman, Will Durr, Daniel Paice and Garrett Pedersen.
It was pointed out that Garrett Pedersen is a recent graduate of Kimball High School and now a member of the United States Marine Corp stationed in San Diego, California. at the present time.
The weather was near perfect the entire day and Kerry Ferguson thanked all the sponsors who contributed, and all of the golfers who participated. This annual tournament is a money raiser for the foundation and this year's proceeds will be used to help purchase a new nurse call system for the patients at Kimball Health Services.
