Mike Daum Signs Contract To Go Pro In Spain

Kimball’s Mike Daum is set to move on to his next role in his illustrious basketball career.

After an outstanding high school career at Kimball High, he became one of the best ever as a member of the South Dakota State men’s program – setting so many school and conference records, that put his name into the record books where they may stand for many years to come.

He is South Dakota State’s all-time leading scorer and the 7th best leading scorer in Division I college history, averaging 25.3 points and 11.7 rebounds his senior year. And the list goes on and on.

Big Mike was invited to compete in the NBS Summer League with the Portland Trail Blazers but was not offered a contract. However, he has now signed a contract with a professional team in Spain and will become a member of the Monbus Obradoiro, also known as Orbradoiro Cab of the Libra ACB, and will play in the top league in Spain.

“I am thrilled to be heading to Spain to continue my basketball career.,” Mike said.

He went on to thank a lot of people who have helped him along the way, which of course starts right at home with his mom, who was his very first coach and then coach Bruce Tjosvold at Kimball High, where he put his name into the school record books.

At SDS, he finished his college career with 3,067 points, was a three-time Summit League Player of the Year, a three-time Summit League Tournament MVP and was named freshman of the year and sixth man of the year in his freshman season.

Have fun in Spain, Big Mike, and we will continue to cheer for you from here at home!

Big Golf

Weekend

A busy Saturday is on tap this weekend at the Four Winds Golf Course with the 28th annual Kimball Hospital Foundation four person scramble set to tee off at 12 noon. If you are not already signed up as a player or as a team, better call the Four Winds Pro Shop or chairman Kerry Ferguson and get signed up.

This is always one of Kimball’s largest tournaments and is always a lot of fun while contributing to a great cause as proceeds from this event will be used to purchase a new call system for the patients at Kimball Health Service.

Cost is $80 per player, which gets you golf, lunch and a buffet dinner after play, a custom Foundation Golf Classic polo shirt, a putting contest for cash prizes, lots of raffles and lots of flag prizes.

Lunch and registration is at 11 a.m. with a shotgun tee off at 12 noon. All open golfers need to be sure and call for open golf tee time on Saturday.
