The Kimball High boys golf team has had a busy week and they have taken advantage of being able to get some tournament play by bringing home lots of team and individual honors.

The Longhorns have competed in three tournaments since our last report in last week's Observer, so let's get started.

Kimball Wins SPVA

Kimball picked up its second win of the week on Friday to capture the SPVA Conference title for the 4th consecutive years shooting 344 on a very windy day on a course with the "conditions challenging," according to Coach Wise.

North Platte St. Pats was runner-up with 352, following by Perkins County at 353, Hershey 379, Bridgeport 393, Sutherland 411 and Chase County with no team score.

Another one-two finish for Kimball in the individual standings with Dillon Wise the medalist with his round of 39-41=80 and Zane Anthony just one stroke back at 40-41=81 in the runner-up spot. The SPVA Tournament was played on the Enders Course east of Imperial.

Kimball Wins

Western Trails

Conference

One day later, on Saturday, the Longhorns won their second conference title of the season, and in winning the Western Trails Conference Tournament held at Bayard, they ran their string of WTC Conference Tournament wins to five straight years! The three seniors on this year's team have been in on four of these conference championships!

Kimball shot a team scores of 334 for the WTC win and their top two golfers exchanged spots in this win with Zane Anthony the WTC Conference medalist with his solid round of 36-41=77 while Dillon Wise shot 40-40=80 for runner-up honors. Izaac Reuter had a good day with his round of 43-41=84 for 5th place.

Kimball had all five of its golfers medal in the top ten in an amazing show with Cole Henton 9th with his round of 48-34-93, and Jess Sirrin was 10th with a round of 47-47=94.

Drake DeMasters of Bridgeport was 3rd at 83 and teammate Brady Newkirk was 4th at 84. Mark Lamp of Mitchell was 6th at 85, Austin Thyne of Mitchell was 7th at 85, and Braden Struempler of Morrill was 8th with 88.

The final team standings behind Kimballl's 334 saw Bridgeport at 362, Mitchell 362, Morrill 375, Hemingford 422, Godron-Rushville 423 and Bayard 459.

Weather permitting, Kimball will host its own Invitational today, Thursday and if the weather causes a postponement, Monday is a possible. Tomorrow (Friday) the Horns will play at Chappell and on Tuesday, May 7, they are at Bayard in their final warm up tournament prior to districts, set for May 13 at Cambridge.

In commenting on the success of his team as they appear to be peaking coming into district play, coach Chad Wise said, "I am very happy with the wins the boys have been putting together. Our three seniors have been steady. It was a difficult day at Enders in the SPVA Tournament as the wind was very strong and gusting 40 to 50 miles an hour. The condition of the course was challenging to all the golfers. Zane had a really strong finish. I was proud of Izaac as he was hitting ball very well, and our four and five players did a good job."

At the WTC conference tournament on Saturday, coach Wise was able to play his JV players and was proud of their play as well as his varsity. Jacob Walker shot 55-56=111, Jaren Winstrom 69-52-121, and Trevor Anderson 80-67-147.

Coach Wise also had a special thanks for Mrs. Larry Pahl for driving the team to Bayard.
