Kimball boys defend conference golf titles

Make room for two more trophies in the Kimball High Athletic Trophy case, as the Kimball boys brought home top honors from both conference golf tournaments this past week! The Longhorns successfully defended their championships in both the SPVA and Western Trails Conference tournaments in back-to-back outings.

This past Friday, the Longhorns were at Rivers Edge in North Platte to defend their SPVA championship and they got the job done with a team score of 333, and in so doing, avenged their lone team loss of the season, holding off Perkins County, who finished runner-up with 338. Other team scores saw Bridgeport with 364, Sutherland 376, Hershey 378, St. Pats 426 and Chase County 437.

Andrew McCloud was Kimball's low score for the day, finishing 3rd with his round of 79. Dillon Wise shot 82 for 5th place in the individual standings, Zane Anthony was 9th with 86 and Izaac Reuter 10th with 86, once again giving the Horns four golfers in the top ten medal group. Brendan Walker shot 89 and Kole Bush 90.

After the long trip home from North Platte, the Kimball crew grabbed a night's sleep and headed for Morrill early Saturday morning to take on the field in the WTC Tournament, and they did so in fine fashion, shooting 329, with Bridgeport a distant runner-up with 354. Gordon-Rushville was 3rd with 359, followed by Morril with 377, Hemingford 406, Mitchell 409 and Bayard 430.

Bridgeport's Eric Stevens captured the medalist honors with an even par round of 72. Kimball's Zane Anthony was 2nd in the individual standings with his round of 80, Dillon Wise 3rd with 82, Andrew McCloud 4th with 82, Brendan Walker 7th with 85 and Izaac Reuter shot 90. Playing in the JV division, Kole Bush had a very good day with his round of 78 and Jaren Winstrom shot 94.

If you Kimball golf fans have not had the opportunity to watch the local guys in action, tomorrow is your day to do just that. Tomorrow (Friday, May 4th) will be the Kimball Invitational with golfing to get underway at 9 a.m., so keep in mind the course will be closed until later in the afternoon for open golf. This is a good chance for spectators to come out and watch the area's top talent. The schedule also shows the Kimball team at Bayard this Tuesday (May 8th) to make up an earlier postponed tournament, and then it is District Tournament time and back home to Kimball's Four Wind Course on May 15th. State golf is May 22-23 in Kearney.
