Small but mighty Wildcats are ready to compete

The Banner County tracksters have started their 2018 Spring season under the guidance of head Coach, Kari Gifford, returning for her eighth year with the assistance of Bill Gifford and Priscilla Bastian.

The Wildcats return senior MaKenna Dahlgrin, a state qualifier last year in shot put and discus. Dahlgrin broke the Banner County school record in both of her events last year and is sure to be a tough competitor in her final season for the Lady Cats.

Also returning is letter winner, senior, Courtney Knisley, whose signature events are the 3200 and the 1600. She is joined by returning letter winners, junior, Seth Dvorak, mid-distance and the 800 and sophomore, Deven Sullivan, distance and the 1,600.

These two leaders welcome freshman, Cheyanne Knisley, 3200 and 1600, and hurdler ,Aubrey Clement.

"Our numbers will prevent us from competing for top finishes as a team," Gifford said. "But our work ethic and desire to be competitive will help us be competitive as individuals."

Last year the team earned a fifth place District finish and sixth place finish in the MAC Conference, but Gifford lists competitive nature, work ethic and camaraderie as team strengths for the Wildcats, and she hopes to improve on those standings this season.

As for team goals, Gifford said, "To continue to improve as individuals and support each other in those efforts."
