Observations all along the line - Kimball & the Southern Panhandle First

Jock Talk

A busy week of area school sports for you fans, and it includes, two nights of home court basketball this weekend with Bridgeport coming to town Friday for JV games that begin at 4 p.m., followed by girl’s varsity at 5:30 and boy’s varsity at 7 p.m. The Booster Club will be feeding you fans. On Saturday, the Kimball High wrestlers are off to the Chase County Tournament that starts at 9 a.m. and the basketball has an early start with JV games at 2 p.m., followed by girl’s varsity at 3:30 and the boys at 5 p.m. This will help the Gordon-Rushville players get home a bit earlier on their long trip.

The SPVA Conference Tournament play begins Monday for the girls with first round play to be held at home sites and the boys will begin play on Tuesday, but the pairings were not determined in time for us to get them to you readers in this week’s paper. After opening round play, action moves to the North Platte Community College gymnasium Thursday through Saturday.

I might also mention that on Saturday night, the Interact club will be serving up a Walking Taco Feed, so come hungry once again and help another good cause.

Also, the Kimball Junior High boys basketball teams will open up play this coming Tuesday evening at Burns with a 4 p.m. start time. This should keep you fans busy.

One more event you should put on your calendars is taking place this evening at the Harry McNees Auditorium when former Husker, Aaron Davis, will give an inspirational presentation to the student body and anyone else who wants to attend. Starts at 7 p.m. That is tonight (Thursday).

Congrats going out to a couple of young cross country runners from Banner County who were recently honored by the Star Herald on their All Region selections. Sophomore, Deven Sullivan, made the All Region fourth team and freshman, Cheyanne Knisley, made the same honor on the All Region Girl’s Team. A tip of the hat also to Coach Kari Gifford who runs the program at Banner County High.

Kimball’s Mike Daum, had another big weekend for his South Dakota State Jack Rabbits. He led his team to an 87-80 win over North Dakota State scoring 37 points, along with converting 16 of 16 free throws and pulling 15 rebounds.

At Omaha on Saturday against UNO, he scored 27 points going 10/17 from the field with 1 trey and 6/6 at the foul line and pulled 11 rebounds and dished out 4 assists. Not a bad week’s work!
