Observations all along the line - Kimball & the Southern Panhandle First

What makes the holiday season special to you?

Holidays are just around the corner.

Wow, I can’t believe how fast this year has gone, seems like it was just a month or so ago that we were celebrating New Years Eve. But no matter how fast or slow this year seems to have gone by for you, it is almost Thanksgiving!

Our team here at the office has been talking about this for the past few weeks and we want to hear more about our readers’ traditions.

What are some of your family traditions, something new you want to try, and, of course, what do you enjoy most about it?

My family, now being married with kids, we kinda bounce back and forth for Thanksgiving, as well as other holidays, we don’t have one set place or thing we have done in the past 6 years.

However, one thing that we have done for the past few years is head to Cabelas about eight o’clock at night with fuzzy blankets, warm clothes, hats, gloves, and a chair for Black Friday. Not that we go planning on spending money or planning on being first in line, but I actually enjoy sitting outside all night. Call me crazy if you want, but over the past few years we have made such good friends from the long line in front of the store, from neighboring states all over. Seems no matter if you see each other once a year or a couple times, it’s always great to sit and chat with them again all night.

Don’t get me wrong, I love all the amazing food that comes along with the Holiday, being able to see and spend time with family, but as for traditions, Black Friday at Cabelas is one of ours now.

Oh, the one and only Thanksgiving Day Parade, is a favorite of many on this holiday, this is Donna’s favorite thing about Thanksgiving, and this year she is so excited to get to see the Parade of Lights for the first time.

One of the best parts of the holidays is being able to spend time with family, there are so many who aren’t able to. Being able to spend time with family, either here in Kimball or even traveling, is Mary Kay’s favorite part of the holiday season.

Of course, nearing the holidays, it soon becomes time to put up and decorate trees. One of many favorite traditions and enjoyable times, but this, for Tonia, is her favorite part of this time of year, along with listening to Christmas music, such amazing ways to get in the Christmas spirt.
