Junior High basketball underway

Coaches Dane Wurdeman and Ben Ferguson are busy with games for the Kimball Junior High Boy’s Basketball Teams and there is some talent on this year’s teams. Wurdeman said “The toughest thing we have going for us is trying to match up with the height of some of the teams we go against.”

In bringing you readers up to date on some games already played, with more to bring you perhaps next week; On Jan. 19 against Burns the 7-A team lost to Burns 20-10 with five players for Kimball scoring 2 points each including Scott Hunsaker, Christian VanPelt, Javon Coyle, Cole Henton, and Ethan Ratzlaff. The 7-B team lost 31-4 with Jess Heide and Kyle Evans both scoring 2 points.

The 8-A team won 22-15 over Burns with Brayden Tyan and Brendan Walker both scoring 6 points, Todd Hunsaker, Austin Lulf, Jacob Withrow, and Beau Hanks all with 2 each.

In play against Morrill on Jan. 21, Kimball won the 8th grade game 37-30 with Lulf scoring 11, Walker 9, Todd Hunsaker 4, Hanks 6, Withrow 4, and Tyan 3. Morrill won the 7th grade game 23-9 with Coyle high with 5, Scott Hunsaker 2, and Jaree Barnes 1 for Kimball.

In games with Mitchell on Jan. 25, the very tall Mitchell 8-A team won over Kimball 52-17 with Walker scoring 8, Lulf 3, Tyan, Withrow, and Hanks all 2 each for Kimball. Mitchell won the 8-B game 43-20 with Sam Cajero high for Kimball with 12, Lulf and Lane Wasielewski both with 4.

Mitchell won the 7-A game 49-15 with VanPelt high for Kimball with 6, Coyle, Hunsaker, Ratzlaff, and Kaleb Prather all with 2 and Barnes with 1. Mitchell won the 7-B game 20-12 with Heide and VanPelt with 4 each, Zander Hottell and Coyle with 2 each.

In games with Gering on Feb. 4, Gering won the 8-A game 34-21 with Tyan having a big game with 14, Walker had 5, Hunsaker and Withrow 1 each. Game score not available for the 8-B game but Lulf had 10, Cajero 5, and Alex Flores 2 for Kimball.

Gering won the 7-A game 40-16 with VanPelt and Ratslaff both with 5, Hunsaker 3, Coyle 2, and Henton 1. Gering won the 7-B game 46-7 with Henton, Kaledo Prather, and Coyle all with 2 each and Heide with 1.

In Monday afternoon play at Kimball, the Kimball 8-A team won over Bridgeport 36-21 with Walker and Withrow scoring 8 each, Ryan and Hanks 6 each, Hunsaker 4, Lulf 2, and Cajero 2.

Bridgeport won the 8-B game 23-18 with Cajero scoring 7 for Kimball Arturo Fernandez 3, Hunsaker, Dylan Warren, and Alexander Flores all with 2 each.

Bridgeport won the 7-A game 37-15 with VanPelt scoring 7, Hunskaer 5, Henton 2, and Coyle 1. Bridgeport also won the 7-B-game 19-11 with Heide high for Kimball with 7, Prather 2, and Kyle Evans 2.
