Kimball scores strong at Bayard C-D meet

The Kimball High Track Team had their strongest showing in the field events at the Bayard C-D Track Invite this past week with both boys and girls bringing home gold medals.

Trent Rutledge won his third consecutive first place finish in the boys pole vault with a winning height of 12'0," and Jaden Withrow captured his third straight top finish in the boys triple jump with a winning leap of 41'2.5." Ali Hunsaker had her best day so far in the girls vault winning the event at 8'0" and Madison Biesecker won the girls long jump at 15'1," edging out sister Hannah by a mere half inch as Hannah finished 2nd at 15' 0.5."

Once again the jumps scored a lot of points for Kimball as Tyler Magninie had a career best in the high jump of 5'10" to tie for 3rd in the boys high jump. Justin Mohr was 4th in the vault at 10'6," Jaden Withrow 6th in the long jump at 18'11.5," and Jannel Fiehtner was 5th in the girls triple jump at 31'3.5."

The only points Kimball could muster from the weight events was a 6th in the discus by Jessica Hanks with her throw of 97'0." The Lady Longhorns were without the services of Danika Daum who was at a volleyball event.

On the track, Colton Stull ran well in the 100 meter dash taking 4th with his time of 11.91. Kimball got two places in the girls 200 meter dash with Ali Hunsaker 5th in 29.06 and Hannah Biesecker 7th in 29.28. Hunsaker also ran 6th in the girls 400 in 1:06.05. Ryan Muneio was 4th in the boys 400 in 54.51 but failed to place in the 800. AJ Williams came through with a 5th in the 1600 clocked in 5:21.47 as the young sophomore continues to show great promise.

The hurdle events produced some points for both boys and girls as Madison Biesecker ran 2nd in the girls 300 hurdles with a time of 52.94 and Trent Rutledge ran 5th in the 110 meter highs in 18.14.

Top showing in the relays for Kimball came in the boys 4x100 where the team of Jon Withrow, Jaden Withrow, Colton Stull and Ryan Muneio ran 2nd in 47.26. Kimball's girls relay team of Ali Hunsaker, Jannel 'Fiehtner, Hannah Biesecker, and Madison Biesecker ran 7th in the 4x400 with a time of 4:44.23.

Not a bad day for the Kimball tracksters considering the cold temperatures and the fact they were missing 15 members of their squad including 13 who were absent because of failure to meet scholastic obligations. The competition was top notch with 17 schools involved in the scoring. Jessi Smith of Bayard was named the girl's Track Athlete of the Day and Ethan Skinner of Hemingford received the same honor for the boys. The Bridgeport boys and the Bayard girls won top team honors. Kimball will be in action this Friday at Chappell with a start time of 9 a.m.
