Lady Longhorns pick up two more wins, improve to 3-1

A pair of wins over the past weekend extends the Kimball High girls win-loss record to 3-1. The Lady Longhorns won on the road at Grant 54-33 Friday night and defeated Morrill 48-36 on the home court Saturday.

Kimball was whistled for their 10th foul with 7:08 left in the 2nd quarter at Grant with Danika Daum picking up her third of the night at that point, and at half time the Lady Horns were on top by a slight margin of 22-20. Both Daum and Shelby Vogel had 3 fouls at intermission but Vogel already had 11 points behind her name in the score book, and was playing with gay abandon. Her speed and athleticism was standing out. She got Kimball's first basket of the third period on a rebound put-back, and then Daum moved inside and her team mates were finding her as she scored 11 straight points to blast Kimball to a 36-22 lead. Laura Flores had a pair of assists, Jessica Hanks and Brooke Hager one each during that stretch. Vogel closed out the third period with back to back steals and layin baskets, and Kimball led 40-25 entering the fourth period. Kelly Green took over in the final 8 minutes scoring 9 points including a trey, and the Lady Horns took care of business. Credit coach Chauncey Pedersen with making the adjustments at half time that changed the complexion of the contest. "We made a few changes on both our offense and defense and it worked well for us" said Pedersen.
