  • Season Of Growth Ends For Longhorns

    Chad Miller KHS Basketball Coach|Feb 29, 2024

Kimball 51, Morrill 38 Tuesday’s subdistrict first round matchup with Morrill was a game that we took awhile to get things going, but a great finish to the 3rd quarter really opened things up. Knowing just how capable Morrill could be from the perimeter, our 7 point half time lead was not what we were hoping for after 2 quarters of play. Our shooting was not what we were used to, but our defense and rebounding was keeping us ahead in the game. We only allowed Morrill to score 11 points in the 1st half and that was definitely a positive. We alwa...

  • Longhorns Sitting At 4-2 During Break

    Chad Miller, Longhorn Basketball Coach|Dec 21, 2023

The Longhorns boys basketball tram is sitting at 4-2 during its winter break after a 54-46 loss at Hershey. Next up for Kimball High basketball is South Platte, which comes to K-Town on Jan. 3. JV play starts at 4 p.m. Friday's game vs. Hershey was a very back and forth game all night. We discussed and executed a new offense well the day before in practice and were very hopeful that we would be able to continue that execution come game time. The start of the game went very well as we were able...

Here's a look at their previous three games in which they went 2-1. Kimball 77, Garden County 49 This was a great team victory in front of our hometown supporters. They got to see our Lady Longhorns take home a victory as well, which made it even better for our loud hometown fans. As far as our game goes, we had 5 players reach double digits in scoring...

  • 'Pretty Good Record Setting Performances'

    Chad Miller, Longhorns Basketball Coach|Mar 16, 2023

This the second and last installment of Kimball basketball coach Chad Miller's review of his team's 2022-23 season. In the semifinal game against Bridgeport, turnovers and missed free throws on our end kept the game close and they were able to get the lead back down to 1 with just 45 seconds to go. However, our next possession saw us break their full court pressure as Bransyn Kiefer found Kyler Lusche on a half court pass in which Kyler was able to convert for an "and-one" layup and free throw...

  • A Season Of Growth & Learning

    Chad Miller, Longhorns Basketball Coach|Mar 9, 2023

This 2022-2023 boys basketball season was one of growth and learning of what it takes to play at a higher level. We knew coming in that the potential talent was going to make for an exciting year, however, players were going to need to buy into a culture that embraced higher standards and take on roles that may push them out of their comfort zones for the betterment of the team as a whole. Raising the bar started with preseason benchmarks and a "Longhorn 150 Challenge" that involves each player...

  • Season Ends In Subdistrict Title Game

    Chad Miller, Longhorns Basketball Coach|Mar 2, 2023

Kimball 53, Bayard 45 In the Bayard game, we started the game off strong taking an early 11-3 lead but late in the quarter we gave them too much space on the perimeter and they took advantage by knocking in 3 consecutive three pointers to go into the 2nd quarter tied 12-12. The 2nd quarter was a little better, getting out on defense and holding Bayard to only 2 points the entire quarter and taking the 26-14 lead into halftime. The 3rd quarter then started with our opponent going on a 7-0 run to...

  • Horns Basketball Up For The Challenge

Chad Miller, Kimball Boys Basketball Coach|Feb 16, 2023

Hemingford – Friday’s game in Hemingford was one of those games that in a way you want to just forget about and move on from but we all know you can learn some of your greatest lessons from your most difficult defeats. It was the first game without leading scorer Brandon Paxton on the floor and we started the game as though we were lost without his services. Too many errors early on put us in a deficit we would struggle to overcome all game long. That, along with struggles making shots and Braxton Miller’s foul troubles early on made for an up...

Teams from Custer SD, Sturgis SD, Gillette WY, Lusk WY, Strasburg CO, Fleming CO, McClave CO, Ainsworth NE, and other area schools were there and we got to experience some really good basketball. This year Kimball competed in the Varsity division and on Day 1 had eight players to take on the likes of Sidney, Bayard, Garden Co., and Lusk WY. All...

  • ON THE REBOUND

    Chad Miller, Longhorns Basketball Coach|Mar 10, 2022

This year's 2021-22 Boys Basketball season was one of growth and commitment. With athletic participation at an all time low and losing a few students to not having a football season this year, it was always in the back of people's minds as to whether our season would meet the same fate as well. Fortunately for us, we did have 8 students that showed up to our first practice willing to learn and give it their all for an opportunity to represent our school and community with pride. Within only a...

  • Lusche 7th On 'Most Points Scored In 1 Game' List

    Chad Miller, Longhorns Basketball Coach|Feb 3, 2022

Kimball 57, Banner County 34 JAN 27 First game back from the SPVA conference tournament where the boys played well we were looking to continue that momentum going into our 3 game stretch this week. Banner County was our first opponent on Thursday and even though they have some size, they are a young team like ours and looking to continue to grow their program. The first quarter saw us trying to put pressure in the full court to capitalize on steals and turnovers for quick transition points....

  • Kimball's Lusche Puts Up 13 Against Chase County

    Chad Miller, Longhorns Basketball Coach|Jan 13, 2022

Chase County 75, Kimball 25 The Saturday, Jan. 8, game saw a young Kimball Longhorn team come out and get a few early baskets but were not able to keep pace with the Chase County Longhorns. Scoring the first 2 points in the second quarter the young Kimball team found themselves down 10-20. However, the next 7:50 of the second quarter and into the first six minutes of the third quarter saw the team go on a scoring drought and were outscored 35-2 in that stretch. Chase County did well pressuring our players and getting them to rush their passes...

  • The Comeback Trail Continues

    Chad Miller, Longhorn Basketball Coach|Dec 16, 2021

Friday, Dec.10 Perkins County 80, Kimball 36 Game four on this young season at Perkins County saw our young team hit the floor ready to go at it again. Perkins County had already two big SPVA Conference wins but our boys did not let that faze them. Kyle Fraser, out lone Junior, was back from injury ready to give it a go and provided us with a great boost on and off the floor. We were limiting his minutes but when he was called upon he was ready to try and do whatever we asked of him. Our...

  • Young Longhorns Showing Grit From The Get-Go

    Chad Miller, Longhorn Basketball Coach|Dec 9, 2021

Bayard 67, Kimball 26 Thursday, Dec. 2 We had only seven players to open this season of a three-game stretch of back-to-back-to-back games, four freshmen and three sophomores. Junior Kyle Fraser was injured at our first practice of the year and we hope to have him back for us soon, but for now our energetic group of underclassmen is showing us they are willing to give everything they got night in and night out. At Bayard, Wyatt Cords had a good night shooting going 50% from the field and 17...
