Sheriff Reports On Service Calls

Sheriff Dave Hottell met with the Kimball County Commissioners to report on the first quarter 2024. He reported that 911 calls have decreased from 442 to 284 this quarter, although service calls for the sheriff’s office have increased from 370 in the first quarter of 2023 to 504 this quarter.

Arrests increased from 38 in the first quarter of last year to 44 in the first quarter of 2024.

Meanwhile, VIN inspections have almost tripled from 450 in the first quarter of last year to 1,230 in the first quarter of this year.

Hottell introduced his security policy for the courthouse, which was discussed. The commissioners toured the jail for the quarterly inspection. General maintenance and painting are needed in the jail.

Other officials with business before the county board were Cindy Rahmig, county treasurer; Natasha Knaub, interim tourism director, and Christy Warner, KCTS administrator.

Rahmig presented and reviewed the Return of Sale Proceedings for all delinquent real estate taxes. The delinquent real estate taxes were offered for public auction on March 4. There were 51 Public Tax Sale Certificates issued, and 186 parcels were advertised prior to the Tax Sale. The principal amount advertised totaled $159,526.13.

Knaub presented the revised tourism bylaws for approval. She reported on meetings she attended and said summer help will be working at the tourism center from May until September.

The commissioners toured the annex building, checking for exterior damage and the need for a caulking. When they returned to the meeting, they determined that the building is experiencing normal wear and tear.

Dix residents were represented by members of the Village Board to discuss landfill billing for the Village of Dix and its residents. Since the county no longer bills for the landfill, members of the village board were encouraged to go to the Kimball City Council meeting to discuss their issues.

The next commissioners meeting is on Tuesday, April 16, at the Kimball County Courthouse.
