Oh, No, The W-Man Said The 'S' Word

Banner County

Good morning Banner County! Well first thing on Monday morning I heard the weatherman talk about what a great fall we have been having, even the weekends and then he up and said a bad four letter word..

Snow.

No way am I ready for that, not for another 3 months. It was really beautiful this past weekend, perfect weather to visit the Adams Family Pumpkin Patch (or several other local pumpkin patches! ). Our elementary kids will be headed that way today, October 12th., the coldest day predicted for this week. As I write this I am hoping that the day will be rescheduled.

Friday the 13th there will be No School so that won’t be an alternate date for sure. There will be football on the 13th at South Platte at 3 p.m. and volleyball at 6 p.m. Also on the 13th there will be a Fall Fun event at the Alliance library for all ages; the time is 7-9 p.m.

Thursday, October 12th is Ladies Night Out between 6-8 p.m. with many specials offered on Broadway in Scottsbluff, and the Midwest Theater will show the film “Hide.”

The next day, look out. Friday the 13th!

On the 13th, the Midwest will host the UNL Opera “O Pioneers!” live at 4 p.m., and that evening at 7:30 at the SkyView Drive-In, it’s “Friday the 13th” the movie. One I have yet to be interested in, just sayin’.

Also on the 13th, the American Legion Post #36 in Gering. at 1425 9th Street, will have a raffle and chicken fried steak dinner at 5 p.m. – all open to the public. The following day, beginning at 9:30 a.m.for registration, they invite potentially new members in for training. A meal will be served at noon, chicken and noodle soup, and that evening there will be a pulled pork dinner between 6-8 p.m. The public is invited to both meals.

Saturday, October 14th there will be a Basic Self Defense Class at EWC in Torrington from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Everyone is invited to attend.

At the Scottsbluff Leid library there will be an event at 10 a.m. titled “School of Magic” ... learn to make it all disappear.

Also on the 14th, from t 8:15 a.m. to 11:05 p.m., you are invited to the Scotts Bluff National Monument for their Spectacular Solar Eclipse. Or head to Pine Bluffs Distilling in Pine Bluffs for ‘Rope, Ride & Harvest: Rodeo and Dinner Experience. “This will take place between 4 and 9 p.m.

More to do on the 14th as the Gering Merchants have Oktoberfest between 5 and 8 p.m. and the Adams Family Pumpkin Patch will host a trip through their Corn Maze with flashlights. I would probably get lost in the daylight, let alone with a flashlight!

There will be another gardening class from 3:30 to 5 p.m. at the Meadow Hearth Farm on Sunday, October 15th.

On Tuesday the Banner County Commissioners will meet at 5:30 p.m., and a new exhibit will open at the Legacy of the Plains Museum in Gering. It is called “ Voices And Votes “ and will be there through November 20th. It is a Smithsonian exhibit.

Well folks that is it for now, take care and have a great week. Safe travel and good luck to the traveling sport teams.

Until next time, Barb Cross at 436-7152.
