Western Nebraska Observer - Observations all along the line - Kimball & the Southern Panhandle First

Nebraska State Patrol was called at approximately 4:10 p.m. Octt. 5 regarding a two-vehicle fatality crash at the intersection of Highway 71 and Road 42, just north of Kimball.

A northbound semi tractor-trailer hauling sugar beets was attempting to turn eastbound onto Road 42. A preliminary investigation shows that as the semi slowed to make the turn, a northbound straight FedEx truck rear-ended the trailer.

The driver of the straight truck, identified as Austin Mitchell, 21, of Gering, was pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver of the semi was not injured. Nebraska State Patrol was...
