Lots In Store Aug. 19 For Bushnell Day 2023

The small village of Bushnell celebrates this year’s “Bushnell Day” with exciting events, presentations, entertainment, and food and craft vendors.

Saturday, August 19th, kicks off with a parade at 10:00 a.m. followed by events in the park, including cow tongue football at 11:00 a.m. and a cornhole tournament at 2:00 p.m. Events at the Fire Hall include a hog roast at 5:00 p.m. and a dance featuring the Martin Gilmore Band at 7:00 p.m.

There are plenty of things to keep both adults and kids busy throughout the day. The park will be filled with vendors, food trucks, kids’ activities, and two bouncy houses. There will also be a semi show and fire extinguisher safety program as well as a High West Hotline Demo.

You can choose between two venues for entertainment and presentations. From 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. the Grain Bin Gazebo will host music by the Parson Charlie String Band and Cameron Zwicker. Educational presentations will be given by rock hound LeRoy Meininger and the Bird Conservancy of the Rockies.

The other venue will be at the Methodist Church. From 11:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m, speakers funded by a Humanities Nebraska grant will give cultural presentations.

Andy Wilkinson from Texas will give a program titled “Plains Speaking.”

Craig Larson from Scottsbluff will talk about WWI Veteran Jess Edmistun.

Donette Lone Hill and Mercedes Iron Cloud from the Pine Ridge Reservation will give a program about Traditional Native Arts. Jovan Mays from Colorado will present poetry and talk about Poetry as a Tool for Change.

The event would not be possible without generous sponsors, including Humanities Nebraska, Bushnell Lions Club, High West Energy, Northrop Grumman, Lightning Exteriors, KIMB, Farm Bureau Financial Services, Home Team Realty, Bushnell Fire Department, Points West, Joe Mejia State Farm, Plummer Insurance Inc, Patriot Renovations, FirsTier Bank, Kimball Area Foundation Fund, STP Auto Services, Howington Family, Miller Ranch and Jack Shaw.
