Does Late Spring Green Mean There's A Chance For Some Wheat Harvest?

Good morning! With all of the rain that we have been having...Wow! Is it ever green out!

I returned this past week from a short visit to the desert and all of the green was an awesome sight indeed. Maybe there will be a chance for some wheat harvest after all.

We are kicking off the summer with the second Free movie at the Midwest Theater, “Shrek,” which is today, June 8th, at 1:30 p.m. The SkyView drive-in will play “Transformers:Rise of the Beasts” June 8 -11. The gates open at 8 p.m. and the movie begins at 9:05 p.m.

This one is rated PG-13. This Friday, June 9th, at the Frank Park in Scottsbluff, the movie “Sonic the Hedgehog 2” will play at 8:30 p.m. Bring a blanket or lawn chairs for this one!

Also on the 9th there will be a Free 1 mile hike, a Wildflower Walk, at the Wildcat Hills. Bring water, appropriate shoes, and a valid park permit for this 7 p.m. adventure. This is in addition to the Wildflower hike on June 10 south of Kimball. (See story about that one on Page B6.)

Also at the Wildcat Hills on Saturday the 10th, a trek, “Hiking on :Land Along the North Platte River with Nathan Corymb,” will cover a vigorous, several mile hike. Meet at the Meadowlark Hearth Farm, 120024 Everett Drive, Scottsbluff with water, snacks, and clothing. The hike will be from 3- 7 p.m. and more information is available at [email protected].

Saturday, June 10th is a busy day. Here are a few events that you might want to look into.

The MS Ride For A Cure will hold their 16th annual ride by meeting at Celli’s Cycle Center, sign up beginning at 8-9 a.m. Saturday. More information is available at 308-630-8086.

The weekly 18th Street Market from now through September begins. The place is the 18th Street Plaza 8-11 a.m. every Saturday.

All day Saturday at the West Nebraska Regional Airport the annual Airport Appreciation Day will be from 12 a.m. to 11:45 p.m.with a fly-in, displayed aircraft, breakfast, a coffee truck, and the EAA Young Eagles Rally.

There will be volleyball action on Saturday evening at Backaracks, 1402 E 20th in Scottsbluff, as Volleyball Night commences at 6 p.m. This match is to aid those heading to a national volleyball competition.

Also on Saturday, June 10th the 14th annual Kimball Ranch Rodeo will begin at 5:30 p.m. at the Kimball/Banner Fairgrounds.

Sunday, June 11 is Family Fun Day at the YMCA Trails West site. This is hosted by the Mitchell Berean Church. Services will begin at 10 a.m. with a carry-in lunch at 11:30 a.m. ( bring a salad or desert ). At 12:30 p.m. Playtime will begin with the pool, bounce houses and yard games. Everyone is invited.

The Midwest Theater will host “PTSD 911” a documentary on Sunday, June 11th at 6:30 p.m. and the Western Nebraska Arts Gallery has ‘Retrospect – William J Clark 1943-2012” in the Main Gallery through June 25th.

The Bronson Gallery has the WNCC 2023 Student Art exhibit, also through June 25th.

Monday, June 12th the regular school board meeting will be held at the school at 7 p.m., and the next commissioners meeting will be on the 19th at 5:30 p.m.

Tuesday, June 13th, Peter Brunette will be at the Legion Park in Gering to present a juggling act. This is offered through the Gering Public Library, is Free, and will begin at 3:30 p.m. Everyone is invited to attend.
