John H. Burback

John H. Burback, 59, of Kimball, died at Regional West Medical Center on Sunday, February 19, 2023.

Cremation has been held and a Memorial Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, February 24, 2023 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Kimball with Father C.P. Varghese officiating. Christian Wake Service will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 23, 2023 at the Cantrell Funeral Home in Kimball. Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday from 1:00 until service time to sign the register book and leave condolences for the family. Memorials may be given in John’s name to the Kimball FFA or St. Jude Children’s Hospital. The services for John have been entrusted to the Cantrell Funeral Home.

John Henry Burback was born in Kimball on April 13, 1963, the son of Richard and Betti (Knoblauch) Burback. He was raised and attended school in Kimball, graduating in 1981. Following graduation, he farmed with his father on the family farm. He was married to Shelly Southard on August 25, 1984 and to this union Ryan and Steven were born. John farmed and ranched his entire life in Kimball County. He enjoyed working with horses and cattle, John always looked forward to calving season.

He loved spending time in the outdoors, especially hunting with his sons. He also enjoyed spending time snow and water skiing. He was active in sports and as a youth participated in boxing. He also enjoyed supporting his sons in their sports activities and watching Nebraska football.

Survivors include his mother Betti Burback of Kimball, NE; sons Ryan and Steven Burback both of Kimball, NE; sisters Kim (Todd) Baliman of Kimball, NE and Pam (Wayne) Boer of Lyons, SD; grandchildren Nash Richard Burback, Elly Lou Burback, Jayda Drew Burback and Colt Edward Burback.

He was preceded in death by his father.
