Prunty Era Ends At City Offices

Family Dollar/Dollar Tree appears to be moving forward with its Kimball Store #33191.

On Tuesday night at the Kimball City Council meeting, Family Dollar applied for and received a Class B liquor license for beer.

Family Dollar agent James Balli said the store will be like a "small grocery store". Balli stressed that Family Dollar will do training, have a scanner to check ages and have video surveillance. According to Balli their violation rate is .004%.

Balli was the only speaker at the 12 minute public hearing. When the motion to approve the beer license came before the council, the vote was 3-1 with new member Don Muench the only nay vote.

Mayor Keith Prunty called the City Council meeting to order on Dec. 6, and in quick fashion the minutes from Nov. 15 and 21 were approved. Mayor Prunty received a plaque and a thank you from the city for his eight years of service as mayor. The meeting was adjourned and former Mayor Prunty exited the room.

Newly elected Mayor John Morrison, councilman Creg Pike, and newly elected write-in candidate Don Muench were given their oaths of office.

The position of council president forced the vote of Mayor Morrison to break the tie as Creg Pike nominated Christy Warner for the position.

The motion for Warner as council president was seconded by Warner. The voting board in the Council Chambers showed 2 no votes and 2 yes votes. Breaking the tie, Morrison voted nay and the council president position was open again.

The council voted and it resulted in a 2-2 tie. Again, Morrison's vote broke the tie but Morrison voted aye for Ingram.

The remaining appointments for City Administrator, City Clerk, City Treasurer, Chief of Police, board, committees, newspapers, radio stations and banks were the same. The active police officers and active firemen were ratified.

The next meeting for the Kimball City Council will be at City Hall Council Chambers on Dec. 20 at 5 p.m. Mayor Morrison asked for the new earlier meeting time.
