Freshman Lusche Takes 14th At State

Longhorn Golfer Plans On Playing A Lot This Summer To Get Better

Lake Mahoney Golf Course in North Platte was the site of the Class D state golf championship, where Kimball’s freshman Kyler Lusche placed 14th in a field of 94 top golfers in Class D.

Kyler told the Observer that the course is straight and easy with no water.

With a little bit of nerves on the first few holes, Lusche shot a 81 on Day 1, which put him in sixth place. On Day 2 he shot an 87, and his total for the two day tournament was 168.

Kyler said on the second day that there was a side wind and it kept pushing the ball to the right.

His driving was good, but he mentioned that his putting was the worst.

“The greens had lots of break in them, and they were pretty fast,” he said.

Kyler said he is looking forward to the summer to play lots of golf and try to get better.

Two seniors, both from North Platte St. Patrick’s, placed first and second in the Class D field. Teegan Sonneman shot a first round 69 (par is 72 on the 6,117 yard course).

He struggled on the second day with an 80, he still won by two strokes shooting a 149. Classmate Connor Hasenauuer shot a 151, two strokes off of first place.

Overton won the team championship with a total for both days of 681 followed by North Platte St. Patrick’s with at 684.
