Graduation Time & More In The Burg

Banner County

Well here we are in in Merry Month of May, Happy May Day to you!

Time is sure flying and I for one am not having that much fun.

On a personal level it is sometimes a steep climb, and there is a lot of confusion and disappointment in our daily lives brought on by the continuing dysfunction of the world we live in.

Soon summer will be here and I am hoping to see more sun, literally.

School is drawing to a close for this year for us here in Harrisburg. Graduation for the pre-K and kindergarten class (the future class of 2035, if I counted right) will take place in the gym on Wednesday, May 11th; pre-K will graduate at 1:00 p.m. and kindergarten will follow at 2:30 p.m.

Our seniors will graduate on the 14th. Guess we no longer recognize the 8th graders. Times are a changin’.

However, tonight, May 5th, will be the annual Spring Concert, beginning at 6 p.m. On Friday, May 6th will be a 10:00 a.m. late start for students and by then the high school track team will be in Leyton for a meet that stated at 9:30 a.m. On Monday, May 9th, the 5th grade students will take a field trip and that evening at 7:00 p.m. the school board will hold their regular meeting.

County Road 36 has been closed so that a section can be rebuilt. It is closed from Creek Rd. Hwy. 71 east to CR 47. It may be closed for up to 30 days depending on the weather. Detour signs are in place.

Over the hill there will be a class available beginning on May 18th titled “Stepping On Class.” This is about learning to identify falling hazards, what can affect your risks of falling and strength and balance exercises to help you get back on your feet if you do fall.

For more information, please call 436-6636.These will be held at the Carpenter Center.

On May 5th at the Nebraska Western Arts Center there will an opening titled “Everything is Coming Up Roses: Dorthy Bronson Memorial.”  Time is 5:00 to 7:00 p.m.

At the same time and place art will be on display from WNCC Art and will be on view through the 29th of May.

Earth Day will be celebrated on May 7th at 2302 Frontage Rd. (Frontage Mall) from 9-11 a.m.

Also on the the 7th, if you are in the mood to travel a little, head over to Lingle-Fort Laramie for a Corn Hole Tournament. They will be competing so as to raise support for the Lingle-Fort Laramie Future Business Leaders of America. This will be held at the Community Center with registration at 10:00 a.m. and competition at 11:00 a.m.

Movie time at the Midwest Theater May 5th & 6th will be at 7:30 p.m. showing “Dr. Strange in the Multiverse of Madness,” and again on the 8th at 1:30 p.m.

Meanwhile at the SkyView Drive-In beginning at 8:30 p.m each evening May 6-8th will be the movie “Fantastic Beasts: Secrets of Dumbledore.”

OK, well then.  That is all for now, have a great week and take care until next time. Barb Cross at 436-7152.
