Donkey Ball: That's Entertainment, But Banner Misses Finals

Good morning, Banner County. Here we are on the last day of March, and where did it go?

Heaven sure knows that the time is flying, but I for one am not having that much fun. However, life marches on. Pardon the pun.

I don't know if any of you were able to attend the Dairyland Donkey Ball game last Monday evening, but it was great entertainment and I thank the Kimball Ranch Rodeo and the participates and sponsors.

The Banner County Wrecking Crew gave it their best but lost their first match so they did not go into the finals.

Although many contestants faces were familiar, one in particular, my sister, brother-in-law and myself knew well because the three of them were school classmates.

The donkeys themselves were a blast to watch and difinetely had their own personalities. One had no interest and actually headed out the door at one point, rider and all.

Another one really liked to buck his first rider, a young man who spent most of his time getting bucked off of him and trying to get back on him.

When our school friend decided to give this guy a try we three had some trepidation because, well, just call us seasoned. He did great and the donkey settled down as long as Bryce H. was in the saddle (blanket)!

The Chardron State College is finishing up today with the students tour of campus and music rehearsal. Tomorrow is April Fools' Day and we all know what that means.

Speaking of Fools, I don't know how many of you are on Facebook, and may have seen one of the latest fads of self mutilation. They were showing pictures of people who are having their lips cut into various "designs." Yep folks, we continue to ruin what the good Lord has given us.

The preschool and kindergarten Round-Up for 2023 is happening today and will begin at 9 a.m. So the current kindergartners will have a day off.

Saturday, April 2nd will find our high school track team going to Bayard for a C-D meet, which will begin at 9 a.m. and then those same students will travel to Chappell on Tuesday for a tri-state meet which will begin at 8:30 a.m.

April 6th & 7th will find FFA students in state competition at Lincoln. Safe travel and good luck to all of you.

Over the hill and to the north, the Midwest Theater will end March on the 31st at 7:30 p.m. with a concert and H Rhett Walker in The Gospel Song & Tailgatin' Tour for the evenings entertainment and will feature special guests Tasha Layton, Leanna Crawford and Peabod. Another concert will be at the Midwest on Tuesday, April 5th. Collectif9 ( not a typo here ) ! will present The Night of the Flying Horse. Join them for an evening of captivating music that is centered around Osvaldo Golijovan, a contemporary composer from Argentina. The Gypsy musicians of more than 500 years ago have been the inspiration for his music. The program will begin at 7:30 p.m.

On Sunday, April 3rd. the Western Nebraska Arts Center will host the opening of the 37th annual Visionaries Student Art Exhibition. The doors will be open to the public from 2-4 p.m. and selected art work will be on exhibit from area schools for students grades 6- 12. Students from Banner County School who have been chosen to participate in the exhibit are: David Selves with a painting and a sculpture, and Mycala Jones and Kairyn Miller each with a painting.

Tuesday, April 5th, Runza will host Feed the Need and 10% of the days sales will be used to help alleviate student hunger.

All for now, have a great week and take care until the next time. Barb Cross at 436-7152
