Field Forming To Replace Erdman

Kimball To Get New Senator Due To Redistricting; Candidate Visits

In late September 2021, the Nebraska Legislature approved the redistricting of the Nebraska legislative districts, and Gov. Pete Rickets approved the map. The redistricting is a result of the 2020 census. Kimball and Banner counties, along with Scotts Bluff County, will become District 48, effective for the legislative elections of 2022.

Kimball County had been part of District 47 and was represented by Sen. Steve Erdman. Erdman will no longer represent Kimball County.

The field is forming to succeed Erdman as this area's representative.

Sen. John Stinner currently represents District 48, but he will term out and Gering businessman Brian Hardin has announced his run for the Nebraska Legislature.

Hardin recently stopped by the Observer office and explained many of his thoughts and policies, including protecting the Second Amendment right to bear arms. He also is opposed to the Critical Race Theory and age-inappropriate sex standards.

According to the Nebraska Secretary of State website, two additional people have filed to represent District 48 in the Nebraska Legislature. Other candidates are Don L. Lease II and Talon Cordle. The Nebraska legislature is a non-partisan seat.
