School Bells Will Ring After Harvest And County Fairs Wrap Up

Banner county

Good morning Banner County, friends near and far. Hot, hot, and more hot around here as of late. We are finishing up on the wheat harvest and county fairs, and before you know it school bells will be ringing.

Speaking of school; due to COVID last year, the annual Flowerfield school days for local area fourth grade students was cancelled. However, this year it will begin at the end of August and will include both fourth and fifth grades in an attempt to make up for the loss for those students last year. Great idea, right?

As for now, Saturday, Aug. 7th will be a busy day as the Scottsbluff farmers market will be held at the 18th Street Plaza from 8-11 a.m, and the 95th annual Greek Festival will be in Bridgeport at the Prairie Winds Community Center beginning at 3:30 p.m. with food, dance exhibitions at 5:30 and 6:30 by the Athenian Dancers, and Greek sweets. Everyone is invited, and you do not have to be of Greek descent!

Also on the 7th, the folks out at the Scottsbluff National Monument will be hosting Camp Fire Day at 7 p.m. There will be a program in the amphitheater behind the visitor center. This is FREE and for all ages. Were any of you ever a Camp Fire Girl? Oh, yeah, and our leader was awesome.

The evening of the 7th you might catch some pretty cool rides at the Dairy Queen because the High Plains Auto Club will have some classics meeting there and then doing some cruising. They will meet at 5 p.m. and cruise at 6 p.m.

The balloon fest will have opening night on August 11th from 6-9 p.m. with the famous ‘Night Glow’ at WNCC with events following in the next few days. I will have those for you next week.

Here at home there is a regular school board meeting on Monday, August 9th at 7 p.m. (School will begin on the 16th!)

The Kimball/Banner County Fair will run at the Kimball Fair grounds from August 3-9. They will host a rodeo on Saturday at 8 p.m. and a rodeo on Sunday at 2 p.m.

Birthdays here this week include: Sarah Mason, Shelly Cross, Christopher Talkington, Weston Lind, Brittany Luppen, Brian Luppen, KyleAnn Hopkins, Lois Dillinger, Sonja Lind, Alli Rose Cooper and Willard Boone Stoddard. Happy Happy Birthday!
