Hot Fun In The Summertime

Good morning Banner County! Well, after several days of cloudy unsettled weather we woke up Monday morning, Memorial Day, to beautiful blue skies and with what appears to be summer on its way.

I certainly hope so because area swimming pools are opening this week! The Westmoor Pool in Scottsbluff opened Tuesday, June 1st and Gering and Alliance hope to open by the end of the week. They were scheduled to open on the 1st also but had a delay due to pool chemical shortages. Hopefully that will all be resolved and not a problem throughout the summer.

There will be plenty of action in Bridgeport June 3-6 with this year’s Camp Clarke Days – “All Roads Lead Home.”

Beginning on Thursday –Today! – they will start off with a book sale at the library, a hamburger feed, entertainment and rootbeer floats. Friday the Camp Clarke Play will be at the high school auditorium at 7 p.m. and the Bowl Dog Lanes will be featuring the Time Machine.

Saturday, of course, is super busy. The annual alumni 5K Fun Run/Walk will begin at the high school track at 7 a.m. and pancakes will be served from 7-10 a.m. There will also be a craft show and a parade at 11 a.m.

The local swimming pool will have Free swimming from 1-6 p.m. with a horseshoe tournament at 1 p.m. and 3-on-3 basketball, too. There will also be some goldfish, frog, toad and turtle races held on the swimming pool lawn at 2 p.m.

If you would rather go fishing head to the old swimming hole around 3 p.m., where there will be a few rods available if you don’t bring your own.

Sunday, June 6th things will wind up with an all school alumni potluck at the elementary school at noon and the Camp Clarke Play at 2 p.m. Plenty of fun here!

Don’t be surprised if you see extra classic cars on the road this weekend because the Route 385 Cruisers Thunder Road Run will be taking place Friday-Sunday, June 4-6th.

For all of you garage sale junkies, there will be a city wide garage sale in Mitchell on Saturday, June 5th with more cars as the Plains Auto Club Classic Car Cruise begins at 6 p.m.

Crafts and entertainment are planned during the Sugar Valley Rally Arts & Craft Fair, which will be in Gardner Park all day Saturday and Sunday.

At the Nebraska Western Arts Center, there will be two new openings, the first on June 3rd with the reception between 5-7 p.m. featuring the work of Carla Stroh and Jory Zurcher. This is titled “Between the Plains and the Mountains” and will be available through June 27th. On the 4th at the same time is the reception for the showing of “Velo-Sophy” – a bicycle show themed group exhibit using all media and show casing re-cycled bicycle parts.

Well there you go as far as I know!

Birthdays here in the Burg include: Dan Barrett, Amiah Coper, Travis Harrison, Tyler Krager, Gena Martinez, Stephanie Farro, Keri Gifford, Dustin Fulk, Valerie Elsen, Mike Klosterman, and Shawnie Mason. Happy Happy Birthday!

Happy Anniversary to Mr. & Mrs. John Jones, Brett Farro, Mike Klosterman, Bill Griffiths, Robin Brown and Ryan G. Olsen.

Well, folks, that is all for now. Have a great week and take care until the next time.
