Longhorns Look To Rebound After SPVA

Kimball's Lady Longhorn basketball team drew a tough first game opponent in the Chase County Lady Longhorns in the first round of the SPVA Tournament on Tuesday, Jan. 19.

Chase County got off to a fast start, doubling up Kimball 12-6 at the end of the first period, and led 26-11 at the half. Chase County then went on a tear through the second half, racking up 38 points to Kimball's 7 in a 64-18 victory.

Juniors Amy Birkhofer and Payton Wise each had 4 points in the loss for Kimball.

Next, the Lady Longhorns faced off against the Sutherland Lady Sailors, and the first quarter of a defensive struggle ended with Sutherland leading 7-3. The Lady Sailors went on to take a 17-9 lead into the intermission.

Both offenses played better in the second half, and a strong showing by Kimball in the fourth quarter narrowed the lead, but it wasn't enough to get by the Lady Sailors, and Kimball fell by a final score of 47--37.

Wise and senior Megan Spicer led the scoring for Kimball with 9 points each in the loss. The losses move Kimball's record to 2-7 on the season.

Kimball tried to get back in the win column with a game scheduled for Tuesday against Mitchell in Kimball.
