Horns Drop Finale To Bobcats

Kimball’s Longhorn football team ended its season with a 60-26 road loss to the Hemingford Bobcats to end their season with an 0-and-7 mark.

The Bobcats scored early and often, putting up 24 points in the first quarter followed by another 22 in the second quarter to give the Hemingford squad an insurmountable 46-to-8 lead at the half.

Both teams heavily substituted in the second half, and Kimball was able to score three touchdowns in the fourth quarter to narrow the margin at the end of the game.

The Bobcats kept the ball on the ground for most of the game, rushing for 398 yards and six touchdowns led by senior Brian Turek’s 175 yards and three touchdowns. Sophomore quarterback Darin Turek only threw three times, completing two passes for 10 yards and a touchdown. The Longhorns were able to recover a fumble on a run by sophomore running back Rick Turek.

The loss brings the Longhorns’ record in their district to 0-and-4, giving Kimball only 5 wins since they switched to the D-1 11 8-man District in 2017.

Head coach Ben Aarestad loses four seniors to graduation and will rely on playing time the underclassmen had this year to strengthen the team for the future.
