Observations all along the line - Kimball & the Southern Panhandle First

High School Sports Are Back This Fall! Enjoy!

I hope you sports fans have enjoyed getting to take in some area high school events? I know I have!

Although the Kimball High football team was beaten soundly by a good Hitchcock County team in the season opener for both teams Friday night, I thought the way things were set up and handled in regards to the coronavirus situation were very good. The volleyball team and cross country team also got their seasons underway, and this week is Homecoming week for Kimball.

The volleyball team is at Bridgeport this evening (Thursday). The girls golf team is at Chappell for The Creek Valley Tournament today (Thursday). The cross country team runs at Gering Friday with an 11 a.m. start time, and how about an afternoon football game this Friday with a 1 p.m. start time for the Kimball vs. Leyton game?

Talkin’ Football

I have had a lot of people asking me how many kids are out for football this year at Kimball and the answer is 19, or at least that is how many were listed on the program this past Friday, although only 16 were suited to play. Hitchcock County had 26.

Talkin’ Golf

Not a lot of good to report on the Pro-Am team involving the local golfers I reported last week.

Kenny and Jordan Greenwood played on the Hays Roofing and Siding Team along with owner Shane Hays, who we also still claim as one of our guys. They finished back in the pack of the 50 teams and out of the money, but I am sure they enjoyed themselves anyway.

Our Kimball Four Winds course is still in great condition and there is still a lot of good golf days ahead so try to take advantage of the cooler weather and enjoy some time before the cold weather moves in.
