Banner County Notes: County Fairs Looking Different This Year

Going, going, gone! And August is upon us. Can you believe it?

Good morning Banner County, friends near and far. I hope if you are in the middle of wheat harvest that the recent hail storms have missed you. Quite a lot of it south of Gering on Sunday to start things off.

Now we are looking at County Fairs. They will diffidently be different this year from any I have ever been a part of, but I am thankful that the kids can have fair/sales at all.

Bridgeport has been going all this week and they will have a Midnight demolition Derby this Saturday, July 25th beginning at 7 p.m. I love those things, but don’t know about the midnight part! Fair is kicking in at Sioux County also and with shows all week they will have a rodeo at 2 p.m. on Friday, July 31st, another one on August 2nd at 1 p.m. and then a demolition derby that evening at 6:30 p.m.

The Kimball/Banner County Fair will begin the first week of August.

Until Fair time we have Bands on Broadway this evening, Thursday July 23rd at the 18th Street plaza in Scottsbluff beginning at 6-9 p.m. Also on this date the movie at the SkyView Drive-In will be “Monsters vs. Aliens” (PG) and on the 25th they will have an interesting event from Encore Drive-In Nights where they will present Blake Shelton.

Area Farmers Market dates are: Mitchell-23rd, Scottsbluff -25th, Morrill 25th & 28th Gering - 27th, and Bridgeport on the 29th. The Farmers to Families Drive Through Food Distribution at CAPWN in Gering is every Friday from 9 - 10:30 a.m.

A few other happenings include: 2020 Volleyball league Clinic at the YMCA, contact 635-2318; on the 23rd at noon CDT a Swine Day webinar hosted by ISU, contact info is http:www.aep.iastate.edu/iowaswineday. Whew.

Here is another one: Row Crop Management webinar on the 23rd from 1- 1:30 with the topic Soybean and midge gall at https:/extension.umn.edu/courses-andevents/essential-row-crop-management-online. Double whew.

The Greek Festival in Bridgeport will also be different this year, so for food orders or info on an auction please 308-279-0077. Also as of the 28th the United Way Ducks that usually swim down stream, but won’t this year... will be available for a drawing which will take place in September. A nice family day is in the panning process for that particular event. Contact Team Auto center for those ducks.

The Nebraska Extension Center will host GroBigRed on Tuesday, July 28th at 6 p.m. MDT. For questions or comments join this zoom discussion and learn more about ‘Tomato Troubles ‘ at https://gounl.edu/gobigredvirtual.

Birthdays this week include: Kaylle Bohnsack, T J Grubbs, Nancy Olsen, Lindsey Krager, Richard Parker, Orion Griffiths, Quinn Elsen, Brett Cooper, Judy Morris, Kerry Elsen, Henry Evans Groves, Janie Wyatt, Nancy Neal, and Maddison Mae Olsen. Happy Happy Birthday.
