THE VALEDICTORIANS

Potter-Dix's Herboldsheimer & Kimball's Wurdeman Discuss The Most Unusual Of Graduations

"I'm focusing on seeing the bright side of tough situations. These past few months have been tough for everybody, but we won't get through it by looking at just the negatives."

– Ginny Herboldsheimer

Graduation for Potter-Dix Valedictorian Ginny Herboldsheimer was scheduled for May 9, but those plans have changed and graduation is still up in the air for the Coyotes.

"I'm pretty excited for graduation, and that it might be something that isn't as traditional," she said.

Ginny has started a speech, but she said, "I may not need it, so I'm waiting to see what we hear before I finish it. We have a couple of options in place that we voted on for graduation, and we should hopefully find out soon. One involves a ceremony following regulations on the football field."

The current plan is to have graduation at Potter-Dix on May 30.

Summer plans for Ginny include working at the Country Printer and then heading to Laramie to the University of Wyoming to major in English and minor in graphic design.

While the Potter-Dix seniors await their graduation, Kimball High School seniors graduated on their original graduation date, May 16, in a virtual ceremony.

Valedictorian Carli Wurdeman remains optimistic, although she said, "I was obviously torn that I didn't have the graduation I always dreamed of. I worked so hard to stand up on the podium and represent my class ..."

It wasn't just graduation that the seniors missed out on but many of the traditional end of the year activities.

"I was looking forward to our senior trip, skip day, honors program, track season, prom, and graduation," Carli said. "However, those things didn't work out. I am still thankful that I was able to spend a half of year with the people who helped me become the person I am today."

As for now, Carli will continue to work as a CNA at the Kimball County Manor in order to get a firm background in medicine.

In the fall, Carli will head to Lincoln to Nebraska Wesleyan University and major in pre-med. She strives to become a family doctor or to specialize in orthopedics.

Meanwhile, Banner County plans to have a ceremony for the seniors on June 20, and as of this week the valedictorian has not been chosen. The June 20 graduation will be an outdoor event.
