Kimball Woman Still In Hospital After Rollover

In Another Wreck, Blowing Dirt Believed To Have Hurt Visibility

Nebraska State Patrol reports that poor visibility due to blowing dirt was the reason for a two-vehicle accident on Highway 71 in Banner County at mile marker 39 on Monday morning, Feb 24.

One vehicle reportedly had slowed down due to the poor visibility and the other vehicle collided with the first.

In another accident, the driver in a rollover earlier this month has been released from Regional West Medical Center in Scottsbluff, but the front-seat passenger is still in intensive care, said Brian Schmidt, the son and brother of the injured parties.

The passenger, Glenda Silbaugh of Kimball, has fractures in the neck, back and fractured ribs.

The rollover accident, according to the Nebraska State Patrol, occurred Sunday, Feb. 16, at 10:45 p.m. at mile marker 13 west of Kimball near Oliver Reservoir.

James Dykema 47, was the driver of a 1990 Subaru sedan. The vehicle was traveling eastbound on Highway 30, left the road, overcorrected and crossed back over and hit an embankment and rolled.

The driver was airlifted to Regional West after he was taken to the Kimball hospital.

Three other occupants were taken to the Kimball hospital for minor injuries.

Nebraska State Patrol said that the front seat belts were in use while the rear occupants were unrestrained. Authorities said alcohol was not involved and the incident continues to be under investigation.
