A split weekend for the Kimball High girls this past week with a convincing 50-32 win over Sutherland on the home court Friday evening and a 58-39 loss to the St Pats Irish on the road Saturday. The Lady Longhorns are now 6-10 as they head into WTC Tournament play this week.

The Kimball girls out scored the visitors in every quarter enroute to their big win Friday and had a good effort according to Coach Chauncey Pedersen, "Other than our shooting," he commented.
Sam Bemis turned in an outstanding performance leading the team in almost every category. She was top scorer with 14 and had Kimball's lone trey, pulled 11 rebounds for a double-double, had 8 steals, and 7 assists. Megan Spicer had 12 points, Jenna Greenwood 8, Sydney Biesecker 7, Katie Heeg 6, Chantel Malson 2, and Payton Wise 1. Heeg also ended with 8 rebounds, 3 steals and 3 assists.
In team stats, Kimball shot 19/62 from the field for 31% but were only 1/14 on 3 pointers for 7% and 11/30 at the foul line for 37%! They did a good job rebounding with 43 including 22 offensive which led to some easy baskets inside. They also had 1 block, 19 steals, 16 assists, 15 fouls, and 16 turnovers.
No one in double figures scoring for Sutherland led by Kellan Copeland with 9 including 2 treys and Faith Stewart with 7 and 2 treys.

St Pats controlled the game from start to finish in Saturday play and it hurt that Kimball was without their top scorer as senior Carli Wurdeman injured a knee in the Mitchell game and missed all weekend play. Megan Spicer had the big game for Kimball Saturday as the junior guard poured in 22 points and hit a pair of treys. Katie Heeg had 5, Sydney Bisecker, Sam Bemis, and Payton Wise all tallied 4 points each. Heeg was top rebounder with 5 while Biesecker and Bemis and Bemis had 4 each. Heeg also charted 4 steals and 4 assists and Spicer had 4 steals.
In team stats, Kimball shot 17/43 from the field for 40%, were 2/10 on treys for 20% and 3/7 at the foul line for 43%. They finished with 21 rebounds, 11 steals, 7 assists, 17 fouls, and 27 turnovers.
The Kimball girls move into WTC Tournament play today (Thursday) travelling to Bayard for their first round pairing with game time set for 6 p.m. A loss would eliminate them from additional play while the winner tonight advances into semi final play where they will meet up with the winner of Mitchell and Hemingford on Friday in the 3:30 p.m. game at WNCC.
