Potter-Dix Season Ends At D2-12 District Volleyball

It was cold outside but hot in the Cabela's Athletic Center as the D2-12 Subdistrict Volleyball Tournament started on Monday night. The first game was the "play-in" game to determine who would face number one seed Garden County in the semi-finals later in the night, and rivals Potter-Dix and Creek Valley battled to advance.

The Lady Coyotes started hot and were able to easily take the first set 25-to-9, as the Lady Storm struggled with hitting errors and defensive miscues. But the tables turned in the second set, pulling out to an 8-to-4 lead and the strength of good serves and Potter-Dix miscues. The score tightened up, but the Lady Coyotes again went through a series of hitting errors and defensive lapses, and Creek Valley pulled away to take the second set 25-to-21. The third set had Creek Valley senior Catie Koenen start off with 8 service points in a row, causing an early Potter-Dix time out and giving the Lady Storm enough momentum to close out the set with a 25-to-9 victory. The fourth set started out tight, but Potter-Dix continued to struggle with errors while the Lady Storm again going on runs and pulling away with a 25-to-17 victory to take the match 3-to-1. Koenen's serves, assists, and outstanding defense powered the Lady Storm, and seniors Chloe Stupka and Kyla Collins led the offense. Potter-Dix ends their season with an 11-and-17 record.

Potter-Dix Head Coach Corey Michelman commented after the game, saying, "The Creek Valley match was kind of like our season in general, We had moments where we looked great and other times where things went wrong and we really struggled.  Our 1st set was as focused as we have been all year and the score showed that , 25-9.  In the subsequent sets, we let little things become big things and could not regain our focus.  We are looking to work on the mental toughness aspect of the game in the off season, along with our skills and consistency."
